What you'll do
- Operate various drilling rigs and equipment to perform subsurface exploration and sampling in accordance with project specifications and safety regulations.
- Conduct soil and rock sampling, ensuring proper techniques are used to obtain accurate and representative samples for laboratory analysis.
- Collaborate with project engineers and geologists to understand project requirements and provide insights based on field observations.
- Maintain and troubleshoot drilling equipment to ensure optimal performance and minimize downtime during operations.
- Prepare detailed logs of drilling activities, including depth, soil types encountered, and any other relevant observations.
- Implement safety protocols and best practices to ensure a safe working environment for yourself and your team members.
- Assist in the preparation of project reports, summarizing findings and providing recommendations based on drilling results.
- Train and mentor junior drilling staff, sharing your expertise and promoting a culture of continuous learning within the team.
- Participate in pre-drilling site assessments to evaluate site conditions and identify potential challenges before drilling begins.
- Ensure compliance with environmental regulations and company policies during all drilling operations.
- Maintain accurate records of equipment maintenance and repairs, ensuring that all equipment is in good working order.
- Engage with clients and stakeholders as needed, providing updates on drilling progress and addressing any concerns that may arise.
Requirements
- Minimum of 3 years of experience in geotechnical drilling or related field, with a proven track record of successful project execution.
- Strong understanding of drilling techniques, equipment, and safety procedures.
- Familiarity with soil and rock classification systems and laboratory testing methods.
- Ability to read and interpret geotechnical plans and specifications.
- Excellent problem-solving skills and the ability to work independently or as part of a team.
- Strong communication skills, both verbal and written, to effectively convey technical information to non-technical stakeholders.
- Valid driver's license and clean driving record; ability to travel to various job sites as required.
- Physical ability to perform manual labor and work in various environmental conditions, including outdoors and in confined spaces.
- Knowledge of environmental regulations and best practices related to drilling operations.
Nice to have
- Certification as a Geotechnical Driller or related professional designation.
- Experience with specialized drilling techniques, such as continuous flight auger or sonic drilling.
- Familiarity with geotechnical software for data analysis and reporting.
- Previous experience in a supervisory or leadership role within a drilling team.
- Knowledge of local geology and site conditions in the Paducah area.
Skills & tools
