About the role
In this strategic finance role for the GTM organization at Baseten, you will be responsible for shaping the financial strategy that underpins the company's go-to-market initiatives. You will work in close partnership with GTM leadership to influence critical decisions regarding pricing, gross margins, and the overarching business model for the AI infrastructure platform. This position provides broad exposure to all facets of company building within a rapidly expanding environment focused on machine learning deployment. You will analyze complex business dynamics and translate them into clear, data-driven narratives that guide executive action. The role requires a high level of intellectual curiosity regarding AI, infrastructure, and developer tools that power modern SaaS businesses. You will own key financial workflows, ensuring rigorous analysis supports confident decision-making across the organization. This is a hands-on position where your financial acumen will directly impact the efficiency and growth trajectory of the business. You will be a key partner in validating strategic choices and ensuring the financial health of the GTM engine.

What you'll do
- Drive the end-to-end financial planning, budgeting, and forecasting processes for the GTM organization, ensuring alignment with corporate objectives.
- Build and maintain detailed financial models that project revenue, sales and marketing expenses, headcount requirements, and strategic investments specific to AI infrastructure deployment.
- Analyze key metrics for usage-based businesses, including annual recurring revenue, gross margin trends, consumption patterns, customer retention rates, and GTM efficiency ratios.
- Partner with GTM leaders to establish ambitious yet achievable targets, assess high-growth opportunities, refine pricing strategies, and design incentive structures for sales teams.
- Support the preparation of critical materials for board meetings, investor updates, and fundraising efforts, ensuring narratives are backed by robust financial analysis.
- Enhance financial reporting, dashboards, and operational discipline to provide real-time visibility into revenue growth and market performance.
- Translate ambiguous business questions into clear, actionable insights by working cross-functionally with product, sales, and engineering teams.
- Evaluate the financial implications of strategic initiatives, providing data-driven recommendations that balance risk and opportunity for the business.
- Lead scenario planning and variance analysis to understand drivers of performance and identify areas for operational improvement.
- Act as a financial steward, ensuring that resources are allocated efficiently to maximize impact across the sales and marketing lifecycle.
- Champion data integrity and process rigor, establishing best practices that improve the accuracy and speed of financial decision-making.
- Serve as a trusted advisor to GTM leadership, distilling complex financial data into concise recommendations that inform high-stakes decisions.
- Contribute to the development of tools and methodologies that provide deeper insight into the performance of AI infrastructure and developer platforms.
- Help define and track leading and lagging indicators to monitor the health and sustainability of the business model.
Requirements
- Bring 3 to 7 years of progressive experience in strategic finance within a high-growth company, private equity or venture capital investing, or investment banking.
- Demonstrate proven financial modeling and analytical capabilities, with the ability to construct complex models from ambiguous inputs.
- Show a strong ability to distill intricate business problems and data sets into concise, actionable recommendations for executive leadership.
- Exhibit comfort with adapting to various tasks and shifting priorities in a dynamic, fast-paced startup environment.
- Maintain a strong focus on detail, with a proven drive for ownership and execution on critical financial deliverables.
- Possess excellent communication and presentation skills, able to convey technical financial concepts to non-financial stakeholders.
- Show high intellectual curiosity and a sustained interest in artificial intelligence, infrastructure technology, and developer tools.
- Demonstrate advanced proficiency in Excel or Google Sheets, with the ability to leverage complex formulas and data manipulation techniques.

- Possess a background in sales finance, sales operations, or sales compensation design within a SaaS or technology environment.
- Have prior professional experience in AI, machine learning, cloud infrastructure, or related technology sectors.
- Show familiarity with usage-based business models, including the nuances of metering, billing, and revenue recognition in dynamic systems.
