About the role
Axios is seeking a Growth Marketing Manager to lead subscriber acquisition and audience expansion for our national newsletter portfolio and a new SME growth pilot. This role is a critical growth position designed to scale flagship national newsletters while simultaneously validating and architecting a small and medium enterprise acquisition strategy. The successful candidate will own the end-to-end responsibility of goal setting, rigorous experimentation, and continuous channel diversification while maintaining strict performance oversight on all initiatives. You will be accountable for owning the full performance lifecycle of key national newsletters across their maturity stages, from early testing to mature scale. This position requires a leader who can translate high-level business objectives into actionable, measurable marketing programs that drive sustainable growth. Collaboration is central to the function, requiring close partnership with Creative, Editorial, Product, and PDT teams to ensure alignment and maximum impact. Furthermore, the role emphasizes the strategic use of technology, where you will leverage AI-enabled workflows to improve the speed and quality of experimentation, analysis, and campaign execution. Ultimately, you will be expected to communicate clear insights and data-driven recommendations to support weekly growth reporting and influence broader strategic decisions for the organization.

What you'll do
Define and drive acquisition targets for national newsletters across early, growth, and maturity performance stages to ensure consistent pipeline generation.
Design, run, and analyze paid experiments on Meta, Google, LinkedIn, and emerging channels with the specific objective to reduce reliance on any single source and mitigate risk.
Establish comprehensive channel diversification plans and actively monitor mix, performance, and efficiency to optimize the overall media strategy.
Set and track Customer Acquisition Cost (CAC) and conversion benchmarks by distinct audience segments to guide precise budget allocation and informed creative choices.
Build and test specific hypotheses for the SME audience growth pilot, concentrating on achieving product-market fit and understanding conversion economics at scale.
Collaborate closely with Creative to develop high-impact messaging and visual assets, while coordinating effectively with Editorial, Product, and PDT teams to ensure content and product alignment.
Strengthen distribution and audience reach through strategic partnerships and by aligning closely with Lifecycle Marketing on seamless onboarding and long-term retention initiatives.
utilize AI-enabled workflows and tools to enhance the efficiency, speed, and quality of experimentation, analysis, and campaign execution across all channels.
Analyze performance data rigorously to communicate actionable insights and data-backed recommendations that support weekly growth reporting and influence strategic decisions.
Maintain a deep, hands-on understanding of the performance marketing landscape to identify new opportunities and optimize existing workflows.
Ensure all marketing initiatives adhere to brand standards and compliance requirements while pushing the boundaries of audience engagement.
Take ownership of the full marketing funnel, from initial awareness through conversion and retention, with a focus on sustainable growth metrics.
Champion a culture of testing and learning by documenting successful strategies and scaling them across the national portfolio.
Partner with finance to monitor budget spend and ensure maximum return on investment for all growth activities.
Act as the primary growth strategist for the national newsletter suite, driving innovation and best practices across the team.
Requirements
6+ years in growth marketing, audience acquisition, subscription, or lifecycle marketing roles with a track record of delivering measurable outcomes and clear business impact.
Demonstrated success growing subscription or first-party audience businesses, with a proven ability to hit and exceed key performance indicators.
Deep hands-on paid media expertise across Meta, Google, LinkedIn, and emerging platforms for testing, optimization, and creative experimentation.
Strong analytical capabilities focused on key metrics such as CAC, LTV, attribution modeling, and comprehensive funnel optimization to drive strategic decisions.
Experience with modern martech and analytics tools such as Braze, Segment, Sigma, and Piano to manage data and report on performance effectively.
Proven ability to successfully launch or scale new growth initiatives or audience programs within fast-paced, iterative, and constantly changing environments.
Exceptional communication and presentation skills necessary to articulate complex data findings and strategies to both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
Strong project management skills required to manage multiple priorities, deadlines, and stakeholders simultaneously without compromising on quality or accuracy.

The compensation package is structured as a target base salary between $95,000 and $120,000, subject to adjustment based on the specific U.S. location and the candidate's level of experience.
