Aurora Solar is seeking a Senior Software Engineer, Frontend to join the Physical Design team in shaping the core technology that powers every solar design created in our platform. In this role, you will own the development of intuitive user experiences that enable solar professionals to design with confidence and accuracy. You will collaborate closely with product managers, designers, and backend engineers to scope, design, and deliver high-impact features across the Aurora platform. This position requires a passion for creating high-quality software and a commitment to improving one of the most critical parts of our customer-facing product. You will contribute not only through implementation but also through thoughtful participation in technical design and architecture discussions. What you'll do
- Build and ship intuitive frontend experiences that enhance how customers design solar systems within Aurora.
- Partner with Product, Design, and Engineering teams to scope, design, implement, and deliver impactful product features on schedule.
- Write clean, maintainable, and well-tested code while providing constructive feedback during code reviews and technical discussions.
- Improve application reliability by developing automated tests and participating in the team's on-call rotation.
- Shape Aurora's frontend engineering practices by contributing to shared architecture, tooling, and technical standards.
- Contribute across the stack by supporting backend development to enable the features you build and ensure seamless integration.
- Foster a collaborative engineering culture through mentorship, planning, technical discussions, and occasional support for cross-team initiatives.
- Work with modern frontend technologies to create responsive, performant, and accessible user interfaces for complex solar design workflows.
- Translate complex product requirements into technical solutions that balance user needs with system performance and scalability.
- Collaborate with data and design systems teams to ensure consistency and efficiency across the Aurora platform.
- Participate in agile development processes, including sprint planning, standups, and retrospectives to continuously improve team execution.
- Act as a technical owner for frontend features, ensuring end-to-end delivery and post-launch monitoring for optimal user experience.
Requirements
- 3-5+ years of professional experience building modern user interfaces using JavaScript and TypeScript in production environments.
- Degree in Computer Science or a related technical field, or equivalent hands-on experience developing and delivering production software.
- Experience developing applications with React and component-based frontend architectures at scale.
- Strong understanding of frontend architecture, state management, and component design patterns.
- Experience integrating frontend applications with backend services and APIs over HTTP and GraphQL.
- Familiarity with full-stack software development and collaborating effectively across the application stack.
- Excellent communication skills with the ability to explain technical concepts clearly and collaborate effectively with both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
- Strong software engineering fundamentals, including system design, testing, refactoring, technical documentation, and writing maintainable, scalable code.
- A collaborative mindset and excitement about contributing to Aurora's mission of accelerating the world's transition to solar energy through technology.
- Proficiency in both written and spoken English, with resumes required to be submitted in English.
- Comfort working in a fast-paced, iterative environment where requirements evolve based on user feedback and technical constraints.
- Willingness to engage in technical debates and make informed tradeoffs to deliver high-quality software under realistic timelines.
Nice to have
- Experience working successfully on distributed teams in a hybrid or remote environment with a track record of effective collaboration.
- Proficiency in Ruby on Rails or Python to support cross-stack contributions and backend integration.
- Experience working with GraphQL to build efficient data layers and optimize API interactions.
- Familiarity with three.js or other 3D graphics libraries to support advanced visualization features within Aurora's CAD tools.
- Experience using Git in collaborative development environments with a strong understanding of branching strategies and code ownership.
- Familiarity with Playwright or other automated testing frameworks to ensure robust and reliable user interfaces.
- Exposure to CAD applications or prior experience working with design or engineering tools used in physical systems.
