About the role
Attentive is defining the next era of marketing through real-time, AI-powered 1:1 personalization that unifies SMS, RCS, email, and push into a single coherent platform. This role owns the backend systems that power our internal business intelligence tooling and the platform that delivers operational metrics to thousands of internal and external stakeholders. You will be responsible for designing, building, and maintaining the data pipelines, services, and user-facing features that turn raw event streams into reliable, actionable insights. You will partner closely with product leaders, data scientists, and internal users to translate complex business requirements into scalable technical solutions. The position demands strong ownership, cross-functional influence, and a commitment to long-term maintainability in a fast-growing, distributed environment. You will also mentor less experienced engineers, contribute to architectural decisions, and ensure that our BI infrastructure remains performant, secure, and resilient at every scale.

What you'll do
Design and maintain the software components that power internal business intelligence tooling and the operational metrics platform used across the organization.
Implement rigorous testing strategies to prevent regressions and ensure accuracy, stability, and long-term maintainability of the applications that deliver metric data.
Continuously enhance code quality and system reliability through refactoring, technical contributions, and architectural improvements to BI tooling and platform performance.
Build and optimize user-facing and internal platform features with a focus on scalability, performance, fault tolerance, and efficient data access patterns.
Translate ambiguous business requirements into detailed technical plans by collaborating closely with product teams, internal users, and subject matter experts to ensure alignment with operational needs.
Provide technical guidance to less experienced engineers through code reviews, design discussions, and knowledge sharing in a fully remote-capable environment.
Ensure all solutions comply with the requirement that team members must reside in the United States.
Support execution against business priorities while reporting to headquarters in New York, NY, within a distributed global workforce model.
Champion best practices in data modeling, query optimization, and pipeline reliability for metrics, analytics, and data-intensive workloads.
Collaborate with data platform and infrastructure teams to integrate streaming and messaging architectures using event-driven platforms such as Kafka or Pulsar.
Lead efforts to modernize and maintain business intelligence and data visualization workflows, improving clarity, speed, and reliability of insights.
Work within the AWS ecosystem to develop and support microservices and data pipelines that underpin analytics platforms and operational reporting systems.
Partner with data engineering and product teams to deliver robust data processing and platform solutions using Python, SQL, and cloud-based data tools.
Act as a technical owner for key BI and platform initiatives, balancing delivery speed with long-term technical health and scalability.
Requirements
Must reside in the United States.
Must report to headquarters in New York, NY.
Bachelor's degree or U.S. equivalent in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Computer Engineering, or a related field, plus 7 years of professional experience as a Software Developer, Software Engineer or any occupation, job title, position involving software development for backend systems.
Must have 7 years of professional experience developing backend software systems using object-oriented programming principles and Java in production environments.
Must have 7 years of professional experience working with relational and non-relational databases and distributed systems, including data storage, streaming, and processing technologies.
Must have 7 years of professional experience architecting, implementing, and supporting high-scale, high availability applications supporting metrics, analytics, or data intensive workloads.
Must have 7 years of professional experience developing data processing and platform solutions utilizing Python, SQL, and cloud-based data tools including Snowflake, DBT, Spark, Kinesis, Airflow, or PostgreSQL.
Must have 7 years of professional experience developing and supporting AWS-based microservices and data pipelines supporting analytics platforms and operational reporting systems.
Must have 7 years of professional experience implementing streaming or messaging architectures using event-driven platforms including Kafka or Pulsar.
Must have 5 years of professional experience designing and maintaining business intelligence and data visualization workflows.
Must have 5 years of professional experience developing and supporting data platforms and data products utilizing Python, SQL, and modern data tooling.
Must have strong experience with version control, CI/CD practices, and infrastructure as code for data platforms.
Must demonstrate a proven track record of diagnosing complex issues, performing root cause analysis, and implementing resilient production fixes.
Must have excellent written and verbal communication skills to collaborate effectively with cross-functional partners and stakeholders.
