About the role
Attentive is seeking a Software Engineer II to own the end-to-end development of integrations that power core customer data and event flows across the platform. You will design and implement features that expose observability into how brands activate their data, ensuring reliability and clarity for both internal teams and external partners. This role involves extending the Integrations Marketplace and building onboarding experiences that simplify complex workflows for marketers. You will craft intuitive user interfaces using modern React while simultaneously writing robust backend services in Java and Spring Boot. You will collaborate daily with product managers, designers, and other engineers to translate ambiguous requirements into production-ready solutions. The work you ship will directly influence how global brands like Crate and Barrel, Urban Outfitters, and Carter's manage billions of interactions. You will be responsible for balancing user experience, performance, and scalability in every feature you deliver.

What you'll do
- Develop and maintain intuitive, reusable, and user-friendly web interfaces backed by scalable backend systems and APIs.
- Implement and optimize systems to enable customer observability into Attentive's event-based platform.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams, product, and design to build applications that support communication channels for marketers.
- Improve code quality through code reviews, testing, and advocating for best practices.
- Identify and address technical debt to ensure the long-term health of our codebase.
- Contribute to technical decisions and stay current with emerging technologies to enhance our product.
- Architect and deliver features within the Integrations Experiences team that unify SMS, RCS, email, and push data.
- Partner with data teams to ensure event-based data pipelines are reliable, observable, and efficient.
- Build and maintain integrations that connect Attentive to third-party marketing and advertising platforms.
- Support the rollout of AI-powered optimization tools that help marketers grow their audiences continuously.
- Create dashboards and tooling that provide real-time insights into integration performance and customer behavior.
- Write documentation and contribute to internal playbooks that help the organization scale its integrations practice.
Requirements
- 3+ years of professional experience in software development focusing on frontend systems.
- Strong proficiency with React and TypeScript, including modern frontend development patterns, performance optimization, and responsive UI development.
- Exposure to backend technologies such as Java, Kotlin and Spring Boot is a plus.
- Experience building and maintaining scalable, customer-facing, high-performance applications.
- You have development experience with databases such as MySQL or PostgreSQL.
- You leverage agentic AI coding tools to accelerate software development while exercising strong engineering judgment.
- Proven ability to collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams.
- Solid understanding of software development best practices, including code reviews, writing tests, and continuous integration.
- Experience with testing frameworks such as React Testing Library and Playwright.
