Senior Product Marketing Manager
Job description
About the role
You define the narrative that convinces data teams to trust orchestration as the foundation of their AI strategy. You own the end-to-end messaging and positioning for the trust layer within Astro's portfolio, ensuring every signal in the market reflects a coherent story. You translate the complexity of Apache Airflow into clear, credible narratives that help sales win at the executive and practitioner level. You are the bridge between deep product capabilities and the real-world outcomes that matter to both engineers and executives. You will craft the competitive frameworks that let our teams understand where we win and where we must improve. You ensure that every launch, from early access to general availability, is backed by a narrative that earns credibility in the community. You work directly with product and sales to turn technical achievements into stories that justify investment and de-risk buying decisions. This role is for a maker who is comfortable getting into the weeds without losing sight of the broader market picture.
Key facts
What you'll do
Define the messaging architecture and category-level positioning for your lane within the Astro platform, and articulate the story that connects technical features to business outcomes.
Develop and maintain competitive battlecards, using win/loss analysis and real deal signals to create practical tools that sales teams use in the field.
Educate sales teams on the narrative for your area, equipping them with elevator pitches, objection handling frameworks, and practitioner-aligned decks.
Execute the GTM motion for product launches in your lane, defining success metrics from early access through general availability and momentum-driven expansion.
Produce content for both practitioner and economic buyer audiences, balancing depth for data engineers with strategic clarity for VPs of Data and CTOs.
Synthesize signals from sales, product, and market data to refine positioning and ensure the messaging stays aligned with real deal dynamics.
Coordinate cross-functional work with product and demand generation teams, influencing without authority to align on priorities and narratives.
Translate complex technical capabilities into simple, credible stories that hold up under scrutiny from skeptical infrastructure teams.
Own the narrative for your lane across event content, sales tools, and ongoing enablement materials that support the broader portfolio.
Evolve your coverage as product investment shifts, maintaining clear ownership while adapting to new priorities and team structures.
Support demand generation initiatives with messaging frameworks that help teams understand where Astro differentiates in the market.
Provide feedback from the field into product and marketing teams, ensuring that positioning reflects practitioner language and emerging use cases.
Champion the role of orchestration as critical infrastructure for AI, helping the market see Airflow not as plumbing but as strategic leverage.
Build referenceable narratives that can be reused across campaigns, sales conversations, and public-facing content.
Maintain a consistent voice that speaks to both technical depth and business impact, ensuring credibility across audiences.
Requirements
You bring 5+ years of experience in product marketing, with at least 2 of those years in a technical B2B SaaS or infrastructure company.
You are a self-starter who can identify and prioritize your own work with minimal oversight, even when the lane is still being defined.
You have a track record of marketing to both technical practitioners and economic buyers within the same go-to-market motion.
You have hands-on experience with competitive positioning, including building battlecards, conducting win/loss analysis, and synthesizing signals from sales and market data.
You are comfortable working cross-functionally with product, sales, and demand generation teams, and you know how to influence without formal authority.
You can make complex subjects simple without distorting the underlying technical reality or misrepresenting capabilities.
You are comfortable moving between abstract infrastructure concepts and concrete business outcomes in a way that resonates across audiences.
You have a strong sense of ownership and are comfortable making decisions within ambiguity while keeping stakeholders aligned.
Nice to have

An understanding of the dynamics between an open-source project and the commercial entity built around it, and how that shapes messaging and positioning.
