Solutions Engineer - Cloud Infrastructure

About the role

In this role, you will be an integral part of the Global Services Delivery Team, focusing on delivering exceptional service to high-value private cloud clients. Your primary responsibilities will include overseeing the deployment, maintenance, and enhancement of Apache Airflow and Astro Private Cloud environments tailored for strategic enterprise customers. This position is essential for ensuring that clients maximize their investment in Astronomer's solutions.

What you'll do

• Oversee a specific set of strategic client accounts, ensuring they derive optimal value from their investment in Astronomer's services.
• Facilitate the deployment of Astro Private Cloud and Apache Airflow within client on-premise setups, ensuring smooth integration and functionality.
• Set up and monitor key performance indicators and alerting systems to guarantee high availability and optimal performance of client environments.
• Address and resolve infrastructure issues related to Kubernetes, networking, database connections, and essential service components.
• Lead efforts in root cause analysis, incident management, and the implementation of changes to improve system reliability.
• Develop automated scripts to perform health checks and monitor the overall state of client environments.
• Provide technical guidance for complex troubleshooting of infrastructure-related issues, ensuring timely resolutions.
• Act as a conduit for feedback between clients and the internal product development team, contributing to ongoing platform enhancements.

Requirements

• A minimum of 3 to 5 years of professional experience in the industry.
• At least 3 years of practical, hands-on experience with Kubernetes, demonstrating a strong grasp of container orchestration.
• Advanced skills in Linux or Unix operating systems, with the ability to navigate and troubleshoot effectively.
• Proficient in configuring and debugging network environments to ensure connectivity and performance.
• Experience with at least one leading cloud service provider, such as AWS, Azure, or Google Cloud, showcasing your versatility in cloud technologies.
• A solid understanding of microservices and service-oriented architectures, enabling you to design and implement scalable solutions.
• Strong communication skills, capable of engaging with clients through various channels including Slack, email, and live pair programming sessions.

Nice to have

• Experience working with Apache Airflow in a production setting, enhancing your ability to manage workflows effectively.
• Familiarity with building and maintaining CI/CD pipelines, contributing to streamlined development processes.
• Background in customer-facing roles, whether long-term or short-term, that demonstrates your ability to engage with clients effectively.
• Knowledge of data ecosystem tools such as Snowflake, Databricks, Cloudera, DBT, or various ETL frameworks, which can enhance your contributions to client projects.
• Proficiency in scripting languages such as Python or Shell, allowing for automation and enhanced functionality in client environments.
