Product SME - Commercial Property
Job description
About the role
You own the end-to-end Commercial Property claims experience inside product decisions. You translate the messy, real-world realities of claims handling into clear product requirements and workflows. You own the bridge between gritty field adjuster work and the digital solutions that scale that expertise. You own the responsibility for improving how claims are processed, documented, and automated at large scale. You own the clarity and accuracy of information flowing between claims teams and product builders. You own the outcome of faster, clearer, and more consistent claim decisions that still preserve necessary human judgment. You own the voice of the customer and the carrier in every discussion about what gets built.
Key facts
What you'll do
Investigate and map the full Commercial Property claim lifecycle from first notice of loss through closure to uncover friction and design opportunities.
Identify missing, inconsistent, or hard-to-use data across policy, loss, inspection, estimate, vendor, and business interruption information that affects claim decisions.
Define what a high-quality, defensible Commercial Property claim looks like by setting practical standards for investigation, coverage analysis, and documentation.
Pinpoint where time, money, and trust are lost in claims workflows and propose solutions to reduce duration and improve estimate and reserve accuracy.
Spot workflows where automation, structured data, or AI can add leverage while protecting claim quality, compliance, and appropriate human oversight.
Bring the real Commercial Property claims process into product decisions by translating field expertise into requirements, edge cases, and decision frameworks.
Connect operational, coverage, and financial views so teams understand how claim choices affect indemnity spend, reserves, litigation risk, and loss performance.
Improve how loss, inspection, estimate, policy, vendor, and financial information is captured, structured, and used in workflows and reporting.
Partner with Product, Engineering, Analytics, Claims Operations, Finance, Customer Success, and Leadership to align on quality and drive root-cause improvements.
Turn operational insight into measurable product improvements that enhance claim outcomes rather than merely increasing workflow activity.
Serve as the trusted internal authority on Commercial Property claims by guiding teams through coverage evaluation, damage assessment, estimating, restoration, and settlement.
Make complex claims concepts understandable and usable for both technical and non-technical audiences across the organization.
Champion better inputs and outputs for the claims process by shaping how information flows through capture, structuring, and product experiences.
Continuously prioritize changes that improve real-world claim results, using data and field feedback to guide product investment and iteration.
Requirements
You have deep, hands-on Commercial Property claims experience, ideally as a field or desk adjuster, examiner, supervisor, or claims leader at a P&C carrier, TPA, MGA, or commercial property focused organization.
You know the full Commercial Property claim lifecycle inside out, including FNOL, investigation, coverage evaluation, damage assessment, scoping and estimating, restoration, business interruption, reserving, vendor coordination, and settlement.
You understand how coverage decisions, policy language, and loss documentation interact to create outcomes for insureds and carriers.
You are comfortable working with incomplete information and making judgment calls that do not fit neatly into predefined dropdowns or rules.
You know what high-quality documentation and evidence look like for defending a Commercial Property claim and supporting sound decision-making.
You understand the impact of claim duration, reserve accuracy, leakage, litigation exposure, and vendor performance on business outcomes.
You can communicate complex claims concepts clearly to both technical and non-technical stakeholders across a large organization.
You are comfortable collaborating closely with Engineering, Analytics, Product, Finance, and Leadership to solve hard problems that span data, workflow, and policy.
Nice to have
Experience turning operational insight into measurable product improvements that change how claims are processed at scale.
A track record of partnering with cross-functional teams to address root causes and drive durable improvements.
Familiarity with how structured data, automation, and AI can be applied in claims workflows without eroding quality or compliance.
