Artera is looking for a Design Lead who combines strategic vision with hands-on execution to shape the complete user experience across all of its products and external-facing interactions. This role defines how clinicians, patients, and business partners engage with Artera through digital platforms, clinical reports, educational content, and promotional materials, ensuring every touchpoint reflects the company's commitment to improving cancer care worldwide.

What you'll do
- Lead and grow a team of product designers spanning both internal staff and external collaborators across multiple projects simultaneously
- Define the visual and interaction design direction for clinic-facing web portals used by healthcare providers on a daily basis
- Transform complex medical data and AI-generated insights into clear, intuitive interfaces that serve the needs of clinical users effectively
- Partner with cross-functional leaders across engineering, product, and clinical teams to align design decisions with broader business goals
- Create and maintain a cohesive design system that ensures visual and functional consistency across all customer touchpoints
- Develop test reports and medical education materials that communicate AI findings in an accessible and scientifically accurate way
- Champion human-centered design principles while strictly adhering to the quality and regulatory standards expected of medical technology products
- Conduct user research and usability testing to deeply understand the needs, pain points, and goals of clinicians, patients, and partners
- Elevate the visual quality of marketing materials to reflect Artera's scientific credibility, trustworthiness, and strong brand identity
- Translate intricate provider workflows into streamlined digital experiences that reduce friction, minimize errors, and improve overall adoption rates
Requirements
- Demonstrated experience leading a design team in a product-driven organization, ideally within healthcare, life sciences, or medical technology
- Strong portfolio showing end-to-end ownership of user experience across web applications, dashboards, and other digital products
- Deep understanding of clinical workflows and the everyday challenges faced by healthcare providers in hospitals and clinics
- Proficiency in translating complex, data-heavy information into simple, visually compelling designs that non-technical users can easily understand
- Ability to work closely with engineers, scientists, and business stakeholders in a fast-moving startup environment with shifting priorities
- Commitment to accessibility standards and inclusive design practices that serve diverse user populations across different backgrounds
- Experience navigating regulatory and quality requirements relevant to medical devices or health technology products and services
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills with the ability to present design rationale and advocate for user needs clearly
Nice to have
- Familiarity with AI and machine learning concepts as they apply to medical diagnostics and clinical decision support tools
- Background in medical education or health literacy and a strong sense of how patients understand clinical information
- Experience managing both in-house designers and external design partners or agencies simultaneously across multiple workstreams
- Knowledge of FDA design controls or ISO 13485 quality management systems for medical devices and related software products
Skills & tools
- Proficiency in design tools such as Figma, Sketch, or Adobe XD for interface design, prototyping, and collaborative review
- Experience with design systems and component libraries to maintain visual consistency and efficiency at scale across products
- Strong visual design skills including typography, color theory, layout composition, and imagery for both digital and print materials
- Ability to create wireframes, high-fidelity mockups, and interactive prototypes that effectively communicate design intent to stakeholders
- Familiarity with user research methods including interviews, surveys, card sorting, and usability testing protocols for iterative improvement
- Comfort with presenting design decisions and rationale to technical and non-technical audiences across the entire organization
