About the role
You will own the design and implementation of high-impact interfaces that sit at the intersection of AI development, evaluation, and observability. This role centers on crafting experiences that help AI teams understand, troubleshoot, and improve systems powering next-generation applications from prototype to production scale. You will design, prototype, and ship features for Arize Phoenix, focusing on both human workflows and Agent Experience (AX) surfaces that are interoperable, safe, and legible for AI agents. You will pioneer new interaction patterns for agents to query, navigate, trigger evaluations, and act within shared human-agent workspaces. A core part of this role involves building reusable components and templates for the design system that bring consistency and clarity to complex AI workflows. You will use AI-assisted UI generation to accelerate prototyping while maintaining craft, accessibility, and consistency across products.

What you'll do
Design and build compelling product experiences for Arize Phoenix across UI-driven and programmatic workflows, ensuring clarity for both humans and agents.
Create interactive visualizations for embeddings, traces, evaluation runs, and agent/tool workflows that reveal root causes and performance patterns.
Develop reusable components and templates for the design system, translating concepts into production-ready artifacts with consistent behavior.
Build Agent Experience primitives such as interaction contracts, human-in-the-loop workflows, and agent-friendly UI surfaces that enable safe collaboration.
Enable agents to query, navigate, trigger evaluations, and act within the workspace while preserving auditability and intent alignment.
Shape the patterns that define how humans and AI agents collaborate within a shared environment, balancing usability with technical constraints.
Prototype new AI features and UI patterns for visualizing performance, surfacing anomalies, and explaining AI behavior, especially for multi-step agent systems.
Use AI-assisted UI generation to speed iteration while maintaining craftsmanship, accessibility, and design system integrity.
Push the boundaries of what is possible when your users include both humans and machines, iterating toward polished and reliable experiences.
Contribute to open-source projects and community-driven tools that advance the state of AI engineering and observability.
Collaborate closely with product managers, engineers, and researchers to align design decisions with product strategy and technical feasibility.
Advocate for best practices in accessibility, performance, and developer experience across design implementations and integrations.
Translate complex AI concepts into clear, actionable interfaces that support debugging, evaluation, and continuous improvement.
Own end-to-end design outcomes, measuring impact through qualitative feedback and quantitative signals in production usage.
Requirements
You have a strong background in frontend engineering with expertise in React and TypeScript, paired with a deep sense of design and interaction.
You think deeply about interaction design, information architecture, and developer experience, and you apply these principles in real-world products.
You are intensely curious about AI systems and committed to learning how agents, evaluations, and observability shape the way teams build and deploy AI.
You enjoy prototyping quickly, iterating based on feedback, and refining experiences until they feel polished and reliable.
You care deeply about accessibility, performance, and craft, ensuring that your work supports diverse users and demanding workflows.
You thrive in open-source communities and are comfortable with async collaboration across distributed teams.

Nice to have
Experience designing for agent workflows, tool use, and evaluation paradigms in AI-driven applications.

Background in building or contributing to open-source UI libraries, design systems, or developer tools.
Understanding of AI-assisted development workflows and how tooling can support both humans and agents.
