At Ans, we are more than a consulting engineering firm; we are a team of trailblazers actively shaping the future of multi-disciplinary engineering. As a company recognized as one of the Best Places to Work and Top 10 Hottest Engineering Firms by Zweig Reports, and featured on the Inc. 5000 list for our remarkable 1,748% growth, we are building a legacy we are proud of. We operate with an allergy to bureaucracy, a passion for innovation, and a commitment to data-driven decisions. If you thrive in a collaborative, creative, and fast-paced environment, we are the perfect match. Our team members hold professional licenses in over 20 states and benefit from a supportive culture that offers paid time off, comprehensive healthcare, and continuous professional development. This role represents a significant opportunity to contribute to that growth.
What you'll do
You will be a critical member of our Geophysical Group in Austin, performing essential fieldwork and analysis that directly informs critical engineering decisions for our clients. Your primary mission is to execute complex site investigations, leading the planning and implementation of subsurface exploration strategies using a diverse array of geophysical and geological methods. You will be responsible for translating ambiguous and challenging field conditions into clear, accurate, and data-driven reports that guide design and construction activities.
A core part of your role will be to mentor junior team members, providing direction and technical guidance on complex projects to ensure their professional growth and the team's overall success. You will be the steward of quality, ensuring that all project deliverables - whether field data, analysis, or final reports - meet the highest standards of quality, safety, and regulatory compliance. Innovation will be central to your daily work; you will actively contribute to developing and refining our standard practices and technical methodologies to improve efficiency and sustainability.
You will build strong, trust-based client relationships through consistent communication and flawless project execution. Your expertise will be vital in the business development process, providing the technical foundation for proposal preparation and client discussions. Furthermore, you will leverage advanced digital tools, modeling software, and remote sensing technologies to simulate scenarios, predict project outcomes, and document site conditions. You will also identify opportunities for process improvement that reduce risk and support sustainable outcomes, sharing your knowledge through internal training and staying current with industry advancements.
Requirements
The ideal candidate for this Geophysicist position possesses a specific and robust foundation of education and experience. A Bachelor's degree in Geology, Geophysics, Earth Sciences, or a closely related field is required, with an advanced degree strongly preferred. This role demands a minimum of five years of post-degree experience specifically in geologic or geophysical field investigations and analysis.
You must demonstrate the ability to manage multiple, concurrent project responsibilities while maintaining an unwavering attention to detail. Success in this position hinges on strong written and verbal communication skills, which are essential for producing highly technical documents and interacting effectively with clients, stakeholders, and cross-functional teams. Proficiency with common office software and geospatial tools is mandatory, as is the capacity to quickly learn new software applications as project needs evolve.
Because this role involves extensive fieldwork, a valid driver's license and a clean driving record are non-negotiable requirements. You must be able to work independently with initiative and also function seamlessly as part of a collaborative team in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment. Willingness to travel regionally to project sites, which may involve overnight stays and variable work schedules, is essential. Finally, a steadfast commitment to maintaining a safe work environment by rigorously following all company safety protocols and field procedures is mandatory for all team members.
