Designer II - Structural
Job description
About the role
You will own the end to end production of structural drawings for utility scale solar and energy storage projects from initial concept through final construction documents. You will apply advanced CAD software to generate accurate and buildable structural models and details while adhering to project standards and regulatory requirements. You will collaborate closely with structural engineers and other technical disciplines to resolve design issues and ensure coordination across the project team. You will mentor junior designers by providing guidance, review, and constructive feedback to elevate the overall quality of deliverables. You will help define and uphold CAD standards, ensuring file organization, layer management, and naming conventions remain consistent and efficient. You will take ownership of identifying and solving complex design challenges that arise during the modeling and documentation phases of the project lifecycle. You will ensure all drawings are produced to the required level of development so that they meet project specifications and applicable codes. You will support the continuous improvement of design workflows by proposing enhancements and adopting new tools that boost team productivity.
Key facts
What you'll do
Perform detailed structural modeling and drawing production for solar PV and energy storage projects using advanced CAD tools.
Develop accurate and constructible structural models that represent the designed intent while coordinating with other disciplines.
Create high level conceptual sketches and detailed drawings that communicate design intent clearly to contractors and stakeholders.
Utilize BIM workflows to ensure model coordination and data consistency across structural, civil, and architectural domains.
Conduct design reviews with engineers to verify that models and drawings satisfy project requirements and applicable codes.
Mentor junior designers by providing hands on guidance, model reviews, and feedback to develop team capabilities.
Maintain strict version control and document management practices to ensure that design files are organized and retrievable.
Support the evaluation and selection of structural materials by analyzing options and presenting findings to the design team.
Proactively identify interferences and constructability issues, then collaborate with the team to develop practical solutions.
Champion the adoption of new tools, techniques, and standards that improve efficiency and quality of structural deliverables.
Translate project requirements into detailed structural drawings that address site specific constraints and regulatory conditions.
Assist in the preparation of technical reports and design summaries that document decisions and assumptions for internal and external audiences.
Participate in client meetings and deliver presentations that explain design approach, modeling strategies, and project status.
Support the continuous improvement of design processes by documenting lessons learned and proposing workflow enhancements.
