About the role
You will own the design and implementation of the core settlement infrastructure that enables digital asset liquidity and counterparty risk reduction for institutional clients. You will translate ambiguous product requirements into robust, testable software solutions that scale securely across multiple asset classes and jurisdictions. You will collaborate closely with product managers and compliance stakeholders to ensure every feature meets strict regulatory expectations and operational resilience standards. You will be responsible for turning high-level business objectives into concrete technical specifications that your peers can implement and maintain. You will lead code reviews and architectural discussions to elevate the quality and consistency of the entire engineering organization. You will diagnose complex production incidents, identify root causes, and build safeguards that prevent recurrence while maintaining strict uptime commitments. You will mentor junior engineers by providing clear technical guidance and hands-on support during implementation and debugging sessions. You will continuously evaluate new tools and frameworks, running experiments that validate whether they improve reliability, performance, and developer experience.

What you'll do
Design and build new settlement components that handle digital asset transfers, confirmations, and reconciliation across multiple ledgers and networks.
Implement resilient error handling and retry logic to ensure transactions reach the correct state even when external systems fail or respond slowly.
Collaborate with product managers to define acceptance criteria, translate business rules into configuration, and validate behavior through automated tests.
Partner with compliance and risk teams to encode policy constraints, such as sanctions screening, exposure limits, and audit trails, into the application logic.
Optimize database schemas, caching strategies, and asynchronous workflows to support high throughput with low latency and predictable performance.
Write and maintain integration tests, contract tests, and end-to-end scenarios that verify interactions between settlement, custody, and monitoring systems.
Instrument services with structured logging, metrics, and traces to enable rapid diagnosis of failures and to support capacity planning.
Refactor legacy modules to reduce technical debt, improve modularity, and make future changes safer and faster to implement.
Work with security engineers to remediate vulnerabilities, apply patches, and harden deployment pipelines against common attack vectors.
Contribute to operational runbooks, incident response procedures, and postmortem documentation to improve reliability and on-call efficiency.
Participate in sprint planning, standups, and retrospectives to coordinate work with other teams and adjust priorities as business needs evolve.
Mentor peers through thoughtful code reviews, pair programming, and knowledge-sharing sessions that spread best practices across the organization.
Evaluate third-party libraries and cloud services, conducting proof-of-concept trials before recommending adoption for production use.
Act as a technical liaison between engineering, product, and compliance, ensuring that everyone has a shared understanding of risks and tradeoffs.
Requirements
You have a Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a closely related technical field.
You have at least 5 years of professional software engineering experience building and operating production systems.
You are proficient in at least one modern programming language such as Java, Python, Go, or Rust, and you can learn new languages and frameworks quickly.
You understand distributed systems concepts including consensus, replication, idempotency, and failure modes in networked environments.
You have experience designing and consuming RESTful APIs and event-driven architectures using message brokers such as Kafka or similar systems.
You are comfortable writing and maintaining SQL and NoSQL queries, and you understand how to optimize them for scale and correctness.
You have a strong track record of writing tests, performing code reviews, and using version control systems such as Git to manage changes.
You are familiar with infrastructure-as-code tools, containerization, and orchestration platforms such as Kubernetes, and you can manage deployments through CI/CD pipelines.
You are authorized to work in the United States and do not require sponsorship for this position at this time.
Nice to have
Experience with digital assets, blockchain networks, or cryptographic key management is helpful but not required.
Familiarity with financial messaging standards, reconciliation engines, or risk management systems is a plus.
Knowledge of compliance workflows, audit frameworks, and regulatory reporting in financial services is preferred.
Experience contributing to open source projects or building internal developer platforms is encouraged.
Practical notes
This is a full-time, remote position based in the United States.
Candidates must be able to start within the next four weeks and commit to a standard 40-hour work week.
No travel is required for this role, and candidates are not expected to relocate.
