About the role
Anaplan is seeking an Associate Backend Software Engineer to join our Predictive Intelligence engineering team based in Manchester, United Kingdom. This role is focused on developing and maintaining backend services that support our Syrup platform, which is integral to delivering advanced forecasting and predictive solutions for enterprise clients. As part of this team, you will work closely with data scientists, machine learning engineers, and other software developers to build scalable, reliable, and high-quality backend systems. Your contributions will directly impact the efficiency and accuracy of our forecasting tools, enabling clients to make data-driven decisions with confidence. Key facts
What you'll do
- Develop, enhance, and maintain backend services, APIs, and data processing components that underpin the Predictive Intelligence platform.
- Collaborate with data scientists and machine learning engineers to integrate predictive models into production environments, ensuring seamless data flow and operational stability.
- Write clean, efficient, and well-tested Python code, following best practices for software engineering and maintainability.
- Design and implement scalable data pipelines that support forecasting, scoring, and other predictive functionalities.
- Participate in code reviews, providing constructive feedback and learning from peers to improve code quality and team standards.
- Contribute to the planning and design of new features, translating business requirements into technical solutions.
- Engage in on-call rotations to monitor system health, troubleshoot issues, and resolve incidents promptly to minimize downtime.
- Document technical specifications, API interfaces, and system architecture to facilitate knowledge sharing and future development.
- Work with cloud services (such as AWS, GCP, or Azure) to deploy and manage backend applications, ensuring high availability and security.
- Support the migration and integration of data warehousing solutions, including Snowflake, to optimize data storage and retrieval processes.
- Assist in optimizing existing code and infrastructure for performance, reliability, and cost-efficiency.
- Contribute to the continuous improvement of engineering processes, including testing, deployment, and monitoring practices.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to understand business needs and translate them into technical deliverables.
- Stay updated with industry trends in backend development, cloud computing, and AI/ML to bring innovative ideas into the team.
- Support the development of documentation and training materials for internal teams and clients as needed.
Requirements
- Proven experience in software engineering, with a focus on backend development.
- Strong proficiency in Python, with a track record of writing clean, maintainable, and tested code.
- Familiarity with relational databases such as Postgres, including experience with SQL queries and database design.
- Knowledge of data warehousing solutions like Snowflake is advantageous.
- Experience working with containerization technologies such as Docker and orchestration tools like Kubernetes.
- Hands-on experience with cloud platforms, preferably AWS, GCP, or Azure, including deploying and managing applications.
- Understanding of version control systems, especially Git, and collaborative development workflows.
- Basic knowledge of machine learning and AI systems, particularly how they are deployed and maintained in production environments.
- Ability to work independently, take ownership of tasks, and deliver results within deadlines.
- Excellent problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related technical field, or equivalent practical experience.
- Good communication skills and ability to work effectively within a team environment.
Nice to have
- Experience with data orchestration tools such as Prefect, Airflow, or dbt to automate workflows.
- Familiarity with MLOps platforms like MLflow or similar tools used to manage machine learning lifecycle.
- Exposure to large language models (LLMs) and AI service integration, including understanding of how to deploy and manage such models in production.
- Experience deploying and managing services on Kubernetes or similar container orchestration platforms.
- Background in forecasting, demand planning, supply chain management, or related fields.
- Knowledge of software development methodologies such as Agile or Scrum.
- Experience with serverless computing solutions offered by cloud providers.
