Software Engineer II, Growth
Job description
.
About the role
The Growth organization is focused on helping users realize long-term value from Amplitude. The team plays a critical role in that journey by driving expansion within existing accounts. Many of our customers start with just a few users - often in product or data teams - and our job is to unlock value for everyone else. We build features that help new users set up, get activated, leverage AI for frictionless insights, highlight relevant parts of the product they might otherwise miss, and expand usage across teams and departments. This is especially impactful in large, complex organizations, where getting from the first few users to broad adoption is a multiplier for retention and revenue. We work across Amplitude's core product suite and integrations, partnering closely with Product, Design, and GTM to ship fast, test often, and use data to guide what we build and where we invest.
Key facts
What you'll do
Design and build product features that drive activation, engagement, and cross-team expansion across the customer journey from onboarding to advocacy.
Work across the full stack using TypeScript, React, Node.js, and GraphQL to own end-to-end feature delivery in a fast-moving environment.
Build experiences that improve user onboarding, feature discovery, and product education to help users unlock value quickly and independently.
Create third-party connections, enabling other products to integrate with Amplitude and extend the platform's reach into new workflows.
Collaborate with Product, Design, GTM, and other engineers to prioritize initiatives and deliver measurable impact on expansion and retention metrics.
Use data to identify opportunities, form hypotheses, and measure outcomes so every decision is grounded in evidence and customer behavior.
Leverage AI coding tools to speed up development while staying grounded in system understanding and long-term maintainability.
Improve the quality, reliability, and maintainability of the code you touch through testing, observability, and thoughtful architecture.
Contribute to a culture of experimentation where shipping frequently and iterating based on results is the standard way of working.
Support product education and enablement by creating examples, templates, and tooling that help internal teams communicate value to customers.
Help define and evolve the technical roadmap for Growth features in partnership with cross-functional stakeholders.
Own the reliability and performance of features in production, monitoring impact, and driving improvements based on feedback and data.
Work within a distributed team structure, aligning with stakeholders across time zones to maintain momentum and clarity on goals.
Champion best practices in security, privacy, and scalability as you build features that touch large volumes of customer data.
Requirements
Have strong experience with modern web technologies, especially React, Node.js, and GraphQL, and a proven track record of building production-grade applications.
Can break down complex problems and own features from idea to release, including scoping, planning, and execution in an agile environment.
Think deeply about the user experience and how technical decisions show up for the customer, balancing tradeoffs between speed, quality, and usability.
Use data to make product decisions and are comfortable working through ambiguity with a bias toward action and iterative learning.
Communicate clearly, proactively, and with empathy across functions, including product, design, sales, and executive stakeholders.
Bias toward action and iterative learning - you ship, test, and adapt based on results rather than waiting for perfect information.
Are motivated by building systems that drive business impact and user success, with a growth mindset focused on moving metrics and solving customer pain points.
Use AI tools such as Cursor, ChatGPT, or Claude to accelerate development while maintaining a strong understanding of the systems you are building.
Possess excellent written and verbal communication skills and the ability to influence without direct authority through clear documentation and concise updates.
Demonstrate ownership by taking initiative on difficult problems, seeing them through to completion, and escalating risks early to keep projects on track.
Nice to have
Bonus points if you have experience working in B2B SaaS environments, with prior exposure to analytics or product analytics platforms.
Experience building integrations with third-party platforms and APIs, especially in a multi-tenant SaaS context.
A background in product analytics, behavioral data modeling, or experimentation platforms.
Familiarity with AI-assisted development workflows and prompt engineering to enhance personal and team productivity.
Experience contributing to open source or building public-facing developer tools that enable other teams or customers.
