About the Role
The Mental Health Rehabilitation Specialist (MHRS) role at Amae Health is central to our mission of delivering high-acuity, recovery-oriented outpatient care for adults with severe mental illness. In this position, you will own the design, implementation, and documentation of psychosocial rehabilitation and life-skills groups that are foundational to our treatment model. You will operate within an interdisciplinary clinic in Orange County, California, serving a population that includes members covered by Medi-Cal. This is a hands-on, member-facing role that requires a commitment to evidence-based rehabilitation practices, meticulous compliance, and continuous improvement within a growing clinical program.
What You'll Do
You will facilitate structured psychosocial rehabilitation and life-skills groups that promote independence, community participation, and personal recovery. You will deliver illness self-management education to help members understand their conditions, treatment options, and self-care strategies. You will teach independent living skills, including daily routines, budgeting, household management, and other practical competencies necessary for community integration. You will support medication adherence through education, coaching, and tailored strategies that respect individual needs and cultural contexts.
You will coordinate closely with psychiatrists, therapists, and the broader interdisciplinary team to align rehabilitation goals with clinical treatment plans and ensure cohesive care. You will document all rehabilitation services in a Medi-Cal compliant manner, maintaining accuracy and compliance for regulatory and clinical outcomes. You will assess member progress, collect data, and adjust group content and intensity to meet evolving recovery goals. You will connect members to community resources and vocational opportunities to support reintegration and long-term stability. You will maintain a safe, structured, and supportive group environment that fosters resilience, personal growth, and engagement. You will implement evidence-based practices within a high-acuity outpatient mental health setting and contribute to quality improvement initiatives. You will collaborate cross-functionally with engineers and researchers to refine rehabilitation tools, protocols, and measurement systems. You will contribute insights to the development of clinical protocols and the science of severe mental illness. You will participate in interdisciplinary case conferences to review member progress and treatment plans. You will practice cultural humility and use trauma-informed facilitation to engage diverse members, including the Medi-Cal population.
Requirements
You must hold a valid license or certification in a behavioral health or rehabilitation field relevant to mental health rehabilitation services. You must demonstrate experience working with adults diagnosed with serious mental illness such as schizophrenia, schizoaffective disorder, bipolar I disorder, and treatment-resistant depression. You must meet all state and federal requirements for practicing in a mental health rehabilitation setting and comply with HIPAA regulations and other applicable privacy and security standards. You must pass required background checks and maintain professional licensure throughout your employment. You must commit to the full-time schedule and availability as outlined by the clinic in Orange, California, and work effectively within a multidisciplinary team, following established clinical protocols. You must communicate clearly and professionally with members, families, clinical staff, and partner organizations. You must maintain accurate and timely documentation in compliance with Medi-Cal regulations and demonstrate cultural humility in serving diverse populations, including those covered by Medi-Cal.

What You'll Do
You will own the end-to-end management of psychosocial rehabilitation and life-skills groups, ensuring they are aligned with individualized recovery goals. You will implement illness self-management curricula that empower members to recognize symptoms, adhere to treatment, and navigate the healthcare system. You will lead structured activities that build independent living skills, including personal routines, financial literacy, nutrition, and household management. You will support medication adherence through practical education, behavioral strategies, and collaboration with medical providers. You will coordinate with clinicians to integrate rehabilitation objectives into comprehensive treatment plans and adjust them based on ongoing assessments. You will document services in a Medi-Cal compliant format that supports outcomes tracking, audits, and continuous quality improvement. You will monitor member engagement and retention, adapting group content and delivery to maintain relevance and effectiveness. You will connect members to community vocational resources, housing supports, and peer networks to promote reintegration and long-term recovery. You will contribute to an evidence-based practice framework by applying research findings and fidelity to intervention models. You will work with technologists and researchers to test, refine, and scale digital tools that support rehabilitation delivery and data capture. You will participate in interdisciplinary case reviews to ensure alignment across medical, therapeutic, and rehabilitation services. You will serve as a representative of rehabilitation expertise in clinical and operational discussions.
Requirements
You must hold current licensure or certification in a behavioral health or rehabilitation discipline recognized for mental health practice. You must have documented experience providing rehabilitation services to adults with severe and persistent mental illness. You must satisfy all applicable state and federal practice requirements and facility-specific credentials. You must maintain strict compliance with HIPAA and other privacy, security, and documentation standards. You must successfully complete background checks and uphold professional licensure throughout your employment. You must be available to work full-time hours as scheduled by the Orange County clinic and demonstrate reliability in meeting clinical commitments. You must function effectively within a multidisciplinary, fast-paced environment and adhere to established clinical pathways. You must communicate respectfully and clearly with patients, families, interdisciplinary colleagues, and partner organizations. You must keep detailed, accurate, and timely records in accordance with payer and regulatory requirements.
