Senior Software Engineer, Cloud Infrastructure
Job description
About the role
Altruist is transforming the multi-trillion dollar wealth management industry by building an AI platform for wealth professionals. We partner with financial advisors nationwide, empowering them to grow, optimize time and resources, and deliver superior outcomes for their clients. This role follows a hybrid schedule, with three days per week onsite in our San Francisco FiDi office. We are hiring a Senior Cloud Infrastructure Engineer to join the Cloud Infrastructure & Platform team. You will own critical infrastructure domains end-to-end and drive technical decisions that affect the reliability, security, and scalability of systems handling real financial transactions. As the industry evolves rapidly with generative AI and agentic workflows, we need engineers who combine deep AWS and Kubernetes expertise with the vision and initiative to define how AI/ML tools and patterns can transform infrastructure operations, developer productivity, and platform resilience. This role carries significant technical influence - you will shape infrastructure strategy, lead complex cross-functional initiatives, and raise the bar for engineering practices across the organization.
What sets this role apart
This is not a ticket-driven infrastructure role. At the Senior-to-Staff level, we expect you to own domains, not just tasks. You will be the technical authority for critical infrastructure areas such as EKS platform, observability strategy, disaster recovery architecture, or AI infrastructure, and drive their roadmap. You will define technical direction by authoring architectural decision records (ADRs), proposing infrastructure standards, and influencing engineering-wide technology choices through design reviews and RFCs. You will lead without a title by driving cross-team initiatives, aligning stakeholders, unblocking other engineers, and representing infrastructure perspectives in leadership discussions and planning. You will multiply the team by elevating the entire CIN team through mentorship, code reviews, knowledge sharing, and building reusable frameworks and golden paths that scale beyond your individual output. You will bridge infrastructure and business by translating complex technical trade-offs into clear recommendations for engineering leadership, product teams, and compliance stakeholders.
Your impact
You will architect, deploy, and operate production AWS infrastructure supporting high-availability financial services workloads, including EKS, MSK, RDS/Aurora PostgreSQL, OpenSearch, ElastiCache, S3, CloudFront, and related services. You will champion observability, reliability, and security standards for critical financial data pipelines and user journeys. You will guide Kubernetes operations and AWS service selection through ADRs, RFCs, and cross-team design reviews. You will enable AI and agentic workflows by building resilient infrastructure foundations for experimentation and production. You will own disaster recovery, capacity planning, and cost governance across EKS, RDS, MSK, and object storage layers. You will partner with product and compliance teams to align infrastructure roadmaps with regulatory requirements and business outcomes. You will elevate engineering practices by creating golden paths, reusable modules, and mentorship for platform consumers. You will translate stakeholder requirements into technical specifications that balance speed, risk, and long-term platform health.
Compensation and location
This role is based in San Francisco, CA. Engagement is hybrid, with three days per week onsite in FiDi. Compensation for this role is $180,000 base; a $20,000 signing bonus is included, along with equity.
Requirements
You must have hands-on experience architecting AWS infrastructure for high-availability financial services. You must be proficient with Kubernetes on EKS, networking, storage, and identity management in regulated environments. You must have three years of experience designing systems that handle financial transactions with strict reliability and auditability.
Nice to have
Experience contributing to infrastructure strategy at scale and mentoring engineers through code and design reviews.
Skills and tools
AWS, EKS, Kubernetes, PostgreSQL, Aurora, MSK, S3, OpenSearch, ElastiCache, CloudFront, Terraform, CI/CD, observability tools.
Practical notes
This role is focused on architecting and operating infrastructure for broker-dealer and clearing workflows in a regulated environment. You will work closely with financial advisors to ensure infrastructure supports their needs and regulatory obligations. What you'll do
