In this role, you will be responsible for managing all financial control activities for Airwallex's operations across the Americas. Your contributions will be vital in ensuring accurate financial reporting, maintaining compliance with regulations, and collaborating with various internal teams on strategic initiatives. This position is integral to the financial health of the organization and will require a proactive approach to financial management. You will leverage advanced analytics to drive informed decision-making and support the broader organizational objectives. The role demands a high level of integrity and a commitment to best practices in financial governance. You will act as a key partner to both operational and executive stakeholders across the region. What you'll do
- Drive enhancements in financial controllership throughout the Americas by utilizing company-provided AI tools, with a focus on standardization, automation, and operational efficiency.
- Oversee and validate the monthly financial closing processes for AMER entities, ensuring close collaboration with the shared service center.
- Guarantee compliance with U.S. GAAP, local laws, and internal accounting policies to uphold the integrity of financial reporting.
- Supervise statutory financial audits, manage regulatory filings, and maintain relationships with external auditors and other third parties.
- Assist in global group reporting efforts, including quarterly closings, consolidation reviews, and coordination with finance teams worldwide.
- Provide expert advice to Product, Engineering, and Business teams regarding accounting implications for new product launches and operational adjustments.
- Prepare technical accounting memos and offer guidance on critical topics such as revenue recognition and mergers and acquisitions.
- Support compliance reporting to relevant U.S. regulatory agencies and industry partners, ensuring adherence to all necessary requirements.
- Collaborate with teams from Tax, Treasury, Legal, Risk, and Operations on regional and group-wide initiatives, fostering a cohesive approach to financial management.
- Analyze financial variances and provide insights to management for strategic planning and resource allocation.
- Develop and maintain robust financial models to support budgeting, forecasting, and scenario analysis for the region.
- Champion the adoption of new financial technologies and methodologies to improve accuracy and speed of financial operations.
Requirements
- A Bachelor's degree in Accounting or a related discipline is essential.
- A minimum of 6 years of experience in finance or accounting roles is required.
- A strong command of U.S. GAAP and technical accounting principles, with the ability to apply these standards in a dynamic fintech setting.
- Experience within the financial services, fintech, payments, or other regulated sectors is highly desirable.
- Proven track record in financial controlling roles, demonstrating the ability to enhance processes and scale financial operations effectively.
- Comprehensive understanding of internal controls, compliance mandates, and reporting frameworks relevant to U.S. financial entities.
- Experience in supporting complex local or international projects, such as system implementations or transitions in operating models.
- Excellent communication skills are necessary for effective collaboration across various departments and levels of seniority.
- Ability to work autonomously, exercise sound judgment, and navigate uncertainties in a rapidly growing environment.
- A creative, proactive mindset with a solutions-oriented approach, balancing attention to detail with operational efficiency.
- Willingness to relocate to or maintain a primary work location within the San Francisco area as required by the role.
- Demonstrated ability to manage multiple priorities and meet strict deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
Nice to have
- Experience working with a Big Four accounting firm is a plus.
- CPA certification or an equivalent professional qualification is advantageous.
- Familiarity with modern finance tools such as Oracle ERP, Pigment FP&A, Looker dashboards, or similar platforms is beneficial.
- Previous experience in a fintech environment where rapid scaling and innovation are the norm.
- Knowledge of financial regulations specific to the United States and North America.
- Exposure to managing cross-functional projects that involve significant process transformation.
- Experience mentoring junior finance team members or contributing to the development of finance functions.
- Understanding of foreign exchange concepts and their impact on global financial operations.
- Familiarity with agile methodologies and their application in finance departments.
- Any additional certifications or advanced degrees that demonstrate a commitment to professional excellence in the financial field.
