About the role
Adyen operates a global financial technology platform supporting major clients like Meta, Uber, H&M, and Microsoft. This role sits within our Platform Engineering division in Bengaluru, where you will manage the infrastructure that allows our internal teams to build reliable and scalable applications. You will own the design, deployment, and operational excellence of our core storage infrastructure, with a primary focus on Ceph-based solutions. Your work will directly underpin the reliability and performance of critical payment systems that handle high volumes of transactions worldwide. You will act as a key technical authority, driving standards and best practices for storage architecture across the organization. This position requires a deep commitment to automation, infrastructure-as-code, and the elimination of manual operational tasks. You will partner closely with development and platform teams to ensure storage services align with business objectives and scalability demands.
Key facts
What you'll do
- Architect and implement scalable SAN and Object Storage infrastructure to meet evolving business demands.
- Ensure storage systems remain performant, reliable, and available through constant monitoring and proactive optimization.
- Predict future infrastructure requirements using data analysis and trend forecasting for capacity planning initiatives.
- Create and execute comprehensive disaster recovery, replication, and backup protocols to safeguard critical data assets.
- Diagnose and resolve complex storage-related technical problems with speed and precision.
- Maintain detailed records of system configurations, change management, and operational standards for auditability.
- Work alongside other engineering units to coordinate migrations, system upgrades, and infrastructure refactoring projects.
- Use infrastructure-as-code principles and scripting to automate storage management tasks and reduce operational overhead.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to define storage requirements for new products and platform enhancements.
- Evaluate, test, and recommend new storage technologies, tools, and methodologies to improve efficiency and resilience.
- Partner with security teams to ensure storage infrastructure complies with data protection and regulatory standards.
- Support the development and execution of runbooks and playbooks for storage operations and incident response.
- Mentor junior engineers and contribute to the technical growth of the storage engineering community within Adyen.
- Participate in on-call rotations to provide timely support for production storage issues as they arise.
Requirements
- Minimum 5 years of experience in Linux systems administration with a specific focus on Ceph.
- Proven background working with enterprise storage hardware such as Purestorage, NetApp, EMC, Dell, IBM, or Hitachi.
- Deep knowledge of RAID, LVM, NFS, iSCSI, multipathing, and file systems including XFS, ZFS, and ext4.
- Hands-on experience with Ceph deployment, configuration, and maintenance in production environments.
- Strong understanding of storage networking concepts, protocols, and performance optimization techniques.
- Ability to read, interpret, and troubleshoot system logs, metrics, and performance data related to storage subsystems.
- Commitment to following established operational procedures and contributing to continuous improvement efforts.

- Experience with clustering technologies.
- Proficiency in shell scripting.
- Skills in Python, Puppet, or Ansible.
- Familiarity with virtualization platforms like KVM or VMware.
- Exposure to cloud storage services such as AWS EBS and S3.
- Experience with monitoring software like Prometheus, Zabbix, or Nagios.
