What you'll do
- Develop detailed architectural drawings and plans for residential projects using CAD software, ensuring compliance with local building codes and regulations.
- Collaborate with project managers and engineers to gather project requirements and translate them into comprehensive design documents.
- Review and revise existing plans based on feedback from stakeholders, ensuring that all modifications are accurately reflected in the final submissions.
- Prepare and submit all necessary documentation for building permits, ensuring that all submissions are complete and accurate to avoid delays.
- Conduct site visits to gather information and assess project feasibility, providing insights that will inform design decisions.
- Coordinate with external consultants, such as structural and mechanical engineers, to integrate their designs into the overall project plans.
- Maintain organized records of all project documentation, including drawings, permits, and correspondence, to ensure easy access and reference.
- Utilize project management software to track progress, manage deadlines, and communicate effectively with team members and clients.
- Stay updated on industry trends, building codes, and best practices in residential design to continuously enhance your skills and knowledge.
- Assist in the training and mentoring of junior drafting staff, sharing your expertise and promoting best practices in drafting and design.
- Participate in client meetings to present design concepts and gather feedback, ensuring that client expectations are met throughout the project lifecycle.
- Contribute to the continuous improvement of drafting processes and workflows, identifying areas for increased efficiency and effectiveness.
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in Architecture, Civil Engineering, or a related field.
- A minimum of 3 years of experience in residential drafting and design, with a strong portfolio showcasing your work.
- Proficiency in CAD software (AutoCAD, Revit, or similar) and other design tools.
- Solid understanding of local building codes, zoning regulations, and permitting processes.
- Strong attention to detail and the ability to produce high-quality work under tight deadlines.
- Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, to effectively collaborate with team members and clients.
- Ability to work independently as well as part of a team, demonstrating initiative and problem-solving skills.
- Familiarity with project management software and tools to track project progress and deadlines.
- Valid driver's license and willingness to travel to job sites as needed.
Nice to have
- Experience with sustainable design practices and green building certifications.
- Knowledge of 3D modeling software and visualization tools to enhance design presentations.
- Previous experience in a client-facing role, with the ability to manage client relationships effectively.
- Certification as a Drafting Technician or similar professional designation.
- Familiarity with construction methods and materials relevant to residential projects.
