Senior Vehicle Attributes Engineer
Job description
About the role
Staff Vehicle Attributes Engineer
Zoox is engaged in a fundamental redefinition of urban mobility. We are architecting an autonomous ride-sharing network designed to deliver a safe, efficient, and distinctly modern transportation experience. This endeavor transcends the creation of a mere vehicle; it is the construction of a new mobility platform intended to influence how people move for generations. The Staff Vehicle Attributes Engineer is pivotal to this transformation, operating at the nexus of robotics, controls, and vehicle engineering to ensure our vision materializes as a world-class reality.
This position is not about passive oversight; it is about active leadership and technical stewardship. You will integrate into the core of our Vehicle Integration organization, heading the attribute discipline and acting as the essential conduit between strategic vision and tangible execution. Success requires making decisive trade-offs and resolving complex issues in concert with departmental and engineering leadership. The objective is to guarantee that our platform achieves the highest standards of performance, safety, and passenger experience. Your work will directly shape the capabilities of our robotaxi fleet.
Role Responsibilities
The Staff Vehicle Attributes Engineer establishes and owns the north star for vehicle behavior. This involves defining the critical metrics that govern balance, energy efficiency, and the overall passenger journey. You are responsible for converting ambiguous product concepts into concrete, measurable engineering constraints that guide the development of our autonomous vehicles.
Your daily contributions will include designing comprehensive evaluation frameworks. These frameworks translate subjective concepts of ride quality into objective, quantifiable targets for our vehicle platforms. You will coordinate closely with the motion planning and controls teams. This collaboration ensures that simulation predictions align precisely with real-world driving dynamics and vehicle behavior.
Another core duty is ownership of the data pipeline. You will manage the systems that capture sensor and dynamics information, utilizing this data for continuous attribute refinement and improvement. When conflicts emerge between performance objectives, safety mandates, and manufacturing limitations, you will lead the trade discussions. The role requires creating documentation that is traceable, clearly linking high-level product requirements to specific vehicle behaviors and outcomes.
Leading cross-functional reviews is a central function. In these settings, attribute results directly inform upcoming platform decisions and strategic direction. You will also partner with validation teams to ensure that test protocols accurately reflect real operating conditions and passenger expectations. This ensures our evaluation processes remain rigorous and relevant.
Key Facts

Compensation: The target range is $183,200 to $232,800 annually
Qualifications and Requirements
To be considered for this role, you must possess U.S. employment authorization. This means you are eligible to work in the United States without the need for sponsorship. Candidates should bring 3 to 5 years of professional experience focused on vehicle attributes, dynamics, or a closely related engineering discipline.
A strong prerequisite is the ability to read and interpret detailed engineering drawings. This skill is essential for understanding how designs are translated into physical assemblies and manufacturing realities. Communication skills must be equally robust, enabling you to convey complex technical concepts clearly to both specialized engineers and non-technical stakeholders, often under strict time constraints.
Preferred Qualifications
Experience with the integration and impact of camera, radar, and lidar sensor suites is highly valued. Understanding how these perception systems influence vehicle behavior and design is a significant advantage.
The Staff Vehicle Attributes Engineer operates without reliance on specific proprietary tools. The focus is on analytical rigor, systemic thinking, and the application of fundamental engineering principles to solve complex challenges in autonomous mobility.
