Firmware Validation Engineer
Job description
About the role
Zoox, a subsidiary of Meta, is hiring a Firmware Validation Engineer to join their team in Foster City, California. In this role, you will be responsible for validating firmware functionality across multiple layers of the technology stack, from individual components all the way up to the complete vehicle system. Your primary focus will be ensuring that every feature operates reliably and consistently within the broader vehicle platform, which is central to Zoox's mission of building autonomous ride-hailing vehicles. You will test embedded applications, examine control logic, and verify feature integrations across various hardware interfaces, sensors, and actuators to confirm they satisfy functional, performance, and safety requirements. Your contributions will directly influence the quality and readiness of features that customers interact with, by identifying problems early in the development cycle, strengthening integration stability, and enabling the smooth handoff of these features to internal stakeholders. Through sustained collaboration with firmware developers, systems engineers, and cross-functional teams, you will play a key part in delivering dependable and reliable capabilities that reach production.
Key facts
What you'll do
Validate firmware functionality at the component level to confirm each individual part behaves as expected.
Test firmware at the subsystem level to verify that groups of components work together correctly.
Conduct system-level validation to ensure the full vehicle platform operates reliably as a whole.
Test embedded applications to confirm they execute properly on target hardware.
Examine control logic to verify that decision-making code produces correct outputs under all conditions.
Verify feature integrations across hardware interfaces, sensors, and actuators for correct operation.
Confirm that firmware meets functional requirements defined by the product and engineering teams.
Validate performance characteristics to ensure firmware responds within acceptable time and throughput bounds.
Check that firmware satisfies safety requirements critical to the autonomous vehicle platform.
Collaborate with firmware developers to reproduce and isolate issues found during validation.
Work with systems engineers to understand integration points and define test coverage for each interface.
Partner with cross-functional teams to ensure features are ready for delivery to internal customers.
Write and maintain validation test plans and documentation to track coverage across all firmware modules.
Participate in root cause analysis sessions to determine the source of firmware failures and recommend fixes.
Requirements
Experience validating firmware across component, subsystem, and system levels in an embedded environment.
Familiarity with testing embedded applications and control logic on hardware platforms.
Understanding of how hardware interfaces, sensors, and actuators interact within a vehicle system.
Knowledge of functional, performance, and safety requirements as they apply to firmware validation.
Ability to identify issues early in the development process to improve overall integration stability.
Strong collaboration skills for working with firmware developers, systems engineers, and cross-functional teams.
Experience delivering validated features to production in a structured engineering environment.
Comfort working within a broader vehicle platform context where multiple subsystems must interoperate.
Able to write clear test reports and communicate findings to both technical and non-technical audiences.
Demonstrated ability to work on multiple validation tracks simultaneously while maintaining attention to detail.
Nice to have
Experience with autonomous vehicle or robotics platforms where safety-critical firmware is validated.
Familiarity with vehicle-level integration testing across multiple hardware subsystems.
Background in testing feature integrations that span sensors, actuators, and embedded control logic together.
Exposure to internal customer delivery workflows where validated features are handed off to downstream teams.
Prior experience with firmware validation tools and automated test frameworks in an automotive setting.
