This role involves overseeing the entire data project lifecycle, from the initial idea phase through to implementation in a production environment. You will own the end-to-end process of transforming ambiguous business challenges into rigorous analytical solutions, ensuring that your work directly enhances our operational efficiency and service quality. Your expertise will be critical in navigating complex trade-offs between computational feasibility and real-world constraints within our logistics and matching systems. You will act as a technical partner to multiple stakeholders, translating high-level objectives into specific hypotheses and testable models. Ultimately, your contributions will drive measurable improvements in key performance indicators that define the success of our premium transportation network.

What you'll do
- Collaborate closely with engineers, designers, product managers, and fellow data scientists to tackle intricate and open-ended problems that arise in our operations.
- Design, test, and implement machine learning and optimization models that will be integrated into our existing systems to enhance performance.
- Continuously improve existing algorithms while exploring new opportunities for algorithmic advancements that can benefit our services.

- Stay updated on the latest trends and advancements in data science, machine learning, and operations research to keep our practices at the forefront of the industry.
- Develop and maintain a deep understanding of our core metrics to identify opportunities for optimization and growth.
- Work with stakeholders to define project scopes and success criteria, ensuring alignment between technical deliverables and business goals.
- Implement robust data pipelines to support model development, testing, and deployment in a scalable manner.
- Evaluate the performance of deployed models over time and recommend adjustments based on empirical evidence.
- Liaise with cross-functional partners to gather requirements and ensure that data solutions address the most pressing operational challenges.
- Contribute to the development of technical documentation and play a role in mentoring junior team members where appropriate.
Requirements
- A Master's or PhD in Operations Research, Mathematics, Management Science, or a closely related quantitative discipline with a focus on optimization techniques.
- Strong understanding and experience in mathematical programming and optimization methodologies.
- Solid foundation in statistics and probability theory, enabling effective data analysis and interpretation.
- Proficient programming skills in Python, along with experience using machine learning frameworks such as SQL and PyTorch.
- Ability to communicate complex technical concepts to non-technical stakeholders clearly and effectively.
- A proven track record of working on data-driven projects that have had a measurable impact on business outcomes.
- Demonstrated ability to work independently and manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
- Strong attention to detail and a commitment to maintaining high standards of data integrity and model reliability.
- Experience with version control systems and collaborative development practices is essential for success in this role.

Practical notes
- Salary range for this position is between £50,000 and £70,000 annually, commensurate with experience and qualifications.
