What you'll do

Coordinate intake of French patent and legal translation requests, confirming scope, deadlines, and jurisdictional constraints before work initiation.

Apply expert-level analysis to source English patent documentation, identifying technical claims, procedural references, and context-dependent terminology.

Execute high-stakes translations from English into French, ensuring that legal meaning, numeric accuracy, and syntactic structure remain intact.

Conduct systematic reviews of machine-translated output, performing targeted postediting that resolves errors while preserving formal register.

Validate translated deliverables against source files using reconciliation techniques that verify completeness, formatting, and clause integrity.

Manage translation memory and terminology databases, adding approved variants while blocking inconsistent entries from entering the production stream.

Collaborate with Program Squads to resolve scope changes, timeline pressures, and resource constraints without degrading quality thresholds.

Interact with vendors to clarify source ambiguities, escalating unresolved issues to senior staff when subject matter expertise is required.

Monitor key performance indicators related to accuracy, cycle time, and budget consumption, adjusting workflows to maintain fiscal discipline.

Support the development of style guides and reference materials that standardize approach across similar patent classes and technology domains.

Provide feedback on tooling and workflow design, highlighting friction points that slow down turnaround or introduce unnecessary manual steps.

Act as a first-line reviewer for complex submissions, catching critical errors that could lead to client liability or enforcement challenges.

Report on language trends and recurring errors to internal stakeholders, enabling proactive improvements to source documentation and briefing practices.

Requirements

Demonstrate advanced or near-native competence in French and English, with the ability to shift between formal legal registers and technical patent vocabulary.

Hold a minimum of five years of professional translation experience, with at least three years focused on patent or legal subject matter in a commercial environment.

Present a proven track record of delivering error-free translations for high-risk documents under tight deadlines while managing multiple concurrent assignments.

Showcase experience with translation memory tools and terminology management systems, including active use of platforms common to language service providers.

Exhibit familiarity with patent prosecution, claims interpretation, and the conventions of patent drafting across at least one major jurisdiction.

Maintain strict adherence to confidentiality and data security protocols, recognizing the sensitivity of intellectual property and client strategies.

Possess strong analytical skills that allow you to infer missing context from source text and make defensible translation choices.

Practical notes

This is a full-time position based in Barcelona, Spain, requiring consistent availability during standard business hours for synchronous collaboration.
