Waymo is seeking a dedicated Software Engineer to join our Fleet Monitoring team, where you will play a pivotal role in ensuring the efficiency and safety of our autonomous vehicle fleet. What you'll do
- Design and implement robust software systems that facilitate real-time monitoring of the fleet's operational status, ensuring high availability and reliability.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including hardware engineers, data scientists, and product managers, to define and refine fleet monitoring requirements.
- Develop algorithms and tools to analyze fleet performance data, identifying trends and anomalies to enhance operational efficiency.
- Create and maintain dashboards and reporting tools that provide insights into fleet health and operational metrics for stakeholders.
- Participate in code reviews and contribute to best practices for software development, ensuring high-quality code and documentation.
- Troubleshoot and resolve issues related to fleet monitoring software, providing timely support to operational teams.
- Engage in continuous improvement initiatives, proposing enhancements to existing systems and processes based on user feedback and technological advancements.
- Stay updated on industry trends and emerging technologies in autonomous vehicles and fleet management, integrating relevant innovations into our systems.
- Mentor junior engineers and interns, sharing knowledge and fostering a collaborative learning environment.
- Contribute to the development of testing frameworks and automated tests to ensure software reliability and performance.
- Collaborate with the safety team to ensure that fleet monitoring systems comply with regulatory standards and safety protocols.
- Assist in the deployment and scaling of fleet monitoring solutions across various operational environments.
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related field.
- A minimum of 3 years of experience in software development, preferably in the transportation or automotive industry.
- Proficiency in programming languages such as Python, Java, or C++.
- Strong understanding of software development methodologies, including Agile and DevOps practices.
- Experience with cloud computing platforms, such as AWS or Google Cloud, and familiarity with containerization technologies like Docker.
- Knowledge of data analysis tools and frameworks, such as Pandas or Apache Spark, for processing and interpreting large datasets.
- Excellent problem-solving skills and the ability to work effectively in a fast-paced, dynamic environment.
- Strong communication skills, with the ability to convey complex technical concepts to non-technical stakeholders.
- Experience with version control systems, particularly Git, and familiarity with CI/CD pipelines.
Nice to have
- Previous experience working with autonomous vehicle systems or fleet management software.
- Familiarity with machine learning techniques and their application in predictive analytics.
- Understanding of vehicle telemetry and data acquisition systems.
- Experience with front-end development frameworks, such as React or Angular, for building user interfaces.
- Knowledge of safety-critical software development practices and standards.
