About the role
Waymo is seeking a Demand Operations Manager to join our team in San Francisco, CA. In this position, you will play a critical role in scaling our autonomous driving technology across various markets. You will be responsible for harmonizing fleet supply with rider demand, ensuring that our service meets the highest standards of quality and efficiency. Your work will directly impact the rider experience and the community perception of our operations.
Key facts
What you'll do
- Oversee service quality by analyzing data, rider feedback, and community input to address and resolve service issues, ensuring a high-quality experience for all users.
- Utilize internal forecasting tools to manage fleet staging, ensuring that vehicles are strategically positioned to meet real-time demand and reduce wait times across different regions.
- Take ownership of the Pickup and Drop-off (PUDO) experience at key locations. You will analyze performance metrics to identify areas for improvement, implement operational changes to enhance safety and efficiency, and collaborate with external partners to elevate the overall experience.
- Develop operational plans for significant city events, crafting tailored staging and PUDO strategies that enhance rider satisfaction while complying with local regulations.
- Collaborate with various internal teams, including Product, Public Affairs, and Mapping, to ensure our technical capabilities align with the specific needs of the communities we serve.
- Build and maintain strong relationships with Marketing, Public Affairs, and local stakeholders to proactively address potential operational challenges and promote the Waymo Driver as a reliable and community-friendly service.
Requirements
- A Bachelor's degree along with a minimum of 5 years of experience in operations management, urban planning, consulting, or logistics, particularly with a focus on demand-side optimization or fleet management.
- Demonstrated success in managing operations across multiple markets or within complex urban settings.
- Strong negotiation and consulting skills, with experience working with external partners such as city officials, event organizers, and community leaders.
- Proficiency in using data visualization tools and internal systems to drive operational improvements.
- Excellent verbal and written communication abilities, enabling effective collaboration with cross-functional teams.
- A commitment to safety-focused fleet management that prioritizes rider experience and maintains high service standards while fostering a community-oriented approach to operations.
Nice to have
- Experience in the ride-sharing or autonomous vehicle industry, or within a high-growth transportation network company (TNC).
- Background in urban design, transit planning, or public policy, particularly related to minimizing community impact in densely populated areas.
- Previous experience in management consulting or strategic operational consulting, emphasizing structured problem-solving and adaptability in ambiguous situations.
- Proven ability to manage logistics for high-profile city events, such as sports games, festivals, or political gatherings.
- Experience in enhancing ride-sharing customer experiences through advanced data analytics to monitor market trends and implement proactive quality interventions.

Practical notes
- This role requires up to 45% travel.
- The anticipated salary for this full-time position ranges from $159,000 to $196,000 USD. Actual compensation will depend on various factors, including specific work location, experience, and relevant education.
