Senior Software Engineer

About the role

You will design, build, and evolve our customer-facing portal and related web experiences, delivering features and improvements that provide direct value to our users. You will focus on the portal front end, responsive UIs, workflows, and integrations, while partnering with backend and platform teams to ensure cohesive and high-quality solutions. Where product direction includes intelligent capabilities, you will help surface AI-assisted experiences in the portal, such as integrating AI-powered APIs, copilot-style features, or ML-driven insights, with constant attention to usability, trust, and performance. You are expected to use AI-assisted development tools as part of your day-to-day work, responsibly and in line with team standards, to improve productivity, explore solutions, and ship quality code faster. This role requires a proactive mindset to gather requirements, translate them into robust technical designs, and execute with precision in a fast-paced environment. You will mentor junior engineers, contribute to architectural decisions, and make a direct impact on the success of WatchGuard as a company by shipping reliable and user-centric portal experiences.

What you'll do

• Gather requirements, design, develop, test, and ship portal features while collaborating in a dynamic and results-driven environment.
• Lead and contribute to portal development using React, TypeScript, and JavaScript, including component architecture, state management, routing, and integration with REST or GraphQL APIs.
• Leverage AI-assisted development tools (e.g., coding assistants, generation, refactoring, or test suggestions) as part of the engineering workflow - while validating outputs, preserving security and privacy, and following code review and organizational policies.
• Take an active role in mentoring junior engineers to elevate the overall capability and performance of the engineering team.
• Make a direct impact on the success of WatchGuard as a company by contributing to high-visibility features and improvements that users rely on every day.
• Participate in on-call rotation approximately once every 2 months to support production issues and ensure high availability of the portal.
• Partner with backend and platform teams to define and consume APIs, ensuring seamless data flow and alignment across services.
• Implement responsive UIs and workflows that deliver intuitive, accessible, and performant experiences across devices and user contexts.
• Integrate portal features with third-party services and internal platforms, focusing on reliability, observability, and maintainability.
• Apply AI-assisted capabilities to accelerate implementation, debugging, and documentation, while maintaining sound judgment around verification, security, and intellectual property.
• Collaborate with product and design teams to translate concepts into technical specifications and prioritize work in an agile environment.
• Write and maintain unit, integration, and end-to-end tests to ensure robust behavior and reduce regressions in production.
• Contribute to the improvement of CI/CD pipelines and deployment tooling to streamline releases and enhance developer productivity.
• Stay current with industry trends and best practices in front-end development, cloud platforms, and AI-assisted engineering to continuously elevate the quality of the portal.

Requirements

• 5+ years of professional front-end development experience, including substantial production experience with React.
• Strong proficiency in TypeScript and modern JavaScript (ES modules, async patterns, typing for scalable UIs).
• Comfort applying AI tools in the software development lifecycle (e.g., for implementation, debugging, documentation, or reviews), with sound judgment about verification, security, and intellectual property.
• 2-4 years of experience with AWS or similar cloud platforms (e.g., front-end hosting, CDN, serverless APIs, or consuming cloud services from browser-based apps).
• 3+ years of experience working with CI/CD pipelines.
• Familiarity with infrastructure-as-code or deployment tooling (e.g., Terraform, Serverless, or Ansible) as it relates to environments and releases.
• Experience with SQL and relational databases such as PostgreSQL or MySQL (e.g., understanding data models for portal features or working with backend teams on queries and performance).
• A proven track record of success building cloud-based, highly automated systems and customer-facing experiences.
• A desire to contribute to a collaborative engineering culture through mentoring and knowledge sharing.
• An innovative and passionate spirit, an ability to overcome technical issues in a cooperative environment, a commitment to ship quickly, and familiarity with agile software development practices.
