Wallapop, a prominent company located in Barcelona, is on a mission to the second-hand marketplace through innovative technology. We are in search of a seasoned design leader who can enhance the user discovery experience for our vast audience across Spain, Italy, and Portugal. What you'll do

• Collaborate closely with product management to shape strategic decisions, challenge existing assumptions, and prioritize the product roadmap based on user insights and data analysis.
• Identify and define the scope of complex design challenges, establishing a clear direction prior to initiating the design process.
• Oversee the entire design process for intricate systems that encompass multiple features, ensuring that any changes are effectively communicated across various touchpoints.
• Take ownership of the complete design lifecycle, from initial research and discovery phases to the creation of high-fidelity user interfaces and detailed technical specifications.
• Convert both quantitative and qualitative data into actionable design solutions that meet user needs while aligning with business objectives.
• Elevate our visual design standards and actively contribute to the development of our global design system, ensuring that our products are consistent and accessible to all users.
• Provide mentorship to fellow designers, fostering a culture that values high-quality design and continuous improvement.
• Engage in user testing and feedback sessions to iterate on designs and enhance user satisfaction.
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including engineering and marketing, to ensure cohesive product development and launch strategies.
• Stay updated with industry trends and best practices to continually refine our design approach and methodologies.
• Advocate for user-centered design principles throughout the organization, ensuring that user needs are at the forefront of product development.

Requirements

• A minimum of 8 to 10 years of experience in product design, with at least 5 years in a senior or lead role.
• Demonstrated expertise in creating mobile-first digital products, particularly for large-scale marketplaces, e-commerce platforms, or similarly complex consumer applications.
• Proven ability to work independently and influence product direction beyond conventional design briefs.
• Strong skills in user-centered design, with a track record of effectively challenging assumptions and advocating for user needs.
• Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written, to articulate design concepts and strategies to diverse stakeholders.
• Familiarity with design thinking methodologies and agile development processes.

Nice to have

• Experience with user research methodologies, including usability testing and A/B testing, to inform design decisions.
• Knowledge of front-end development technologies such as HTML, CSS, and JavaScript, to facilitate better collaboration with engineering teams.
• Previous experience in mentoring junior designers or leading design workshops.
• A portfolio showcasing a range of design projects, particularly those that demonstrate problem-solving skills and innovative thinking.

Skills & tools

• Proficient in high-fidelity UI design tools such as Figma, Sketch, or Adobe XD, along with experience in creating technical documentation.
• Familiarity with global design systems and the ability to maintain cross-platform design consistency.
• Strong analytical skills to synthesize data from various sources, including analytics, user research, and engineering feedback.
• Knowledge of accessibility standards and best practices to ensure inclusive design.
