About the role
Wallapop is seeking an Engineering Manager to guide a cross-functional team within the Buyer Tribe. You will oversee the redesign of our Home experience and the development of our next-generation recommendations platform while balancing technical quality, scalability, and product delivery. In this leadership capacity, you will act as a crucial bridge between strategic product initiatives and the day-to-day execution of the engineering team. The role requires a balance of hands-on technical insight and high-level people management to ensure the squad's objectives are met. You will be responsible for fostering an environment where engineering excellence and business outcomes are aligned. This position is pivotal in driving the technical vision for key customer-facing features. Your decisions will directly influence the user experience and the performance of the platform.

What you'll do
- Orchestrate the delivery of high-impact initiatives by managing a cross-functional engineering team to ensure the successful execution of the Home experience redesign and the next-generation recommendations platform.
- Architect and refine our engineering processes to facilitate effective meetings and remove blockers, thereby improving the efficiency and throughput of the team.
- Articulate a clear vision, purpose, and visibility for your team members, ensuring alignment between individual contributions and the broader product strategy.
- Conduct regular one-on-one sessions to provide constructive feedback, actively manage performance, and mentor team members in their career growth.
- Proactively resolve team challenges by mediating conflicts and fostering a strong two-way feedback loop that promotes psychological safety and innovation.
- Partner closely with product and design functions during the hiring process to identify skill gaps and actively participate in the onboarding of new engineering talent.
- Coach individuals on technical practices and coach the wider organization on agile methodologies and engineering best practices to elevate the overall maturity of the team.
- Analyze delivery metrics and technical health indicators to make data-driven decisions that enhance the quality and scalability of our software solutions.
- Champion a pragmatic, quality-focused mindset where rigorous code reviews and testing standards are upheld to maintain a robust codebase.
- Drive the adoption of agile methodologies to ensure the team remains adaptable and responsive to changing market demands and user needs.
Requirements
- Possess a minimum of 2 years of experience in an engineering leadership role, demonstrating a proven track record of managing engineers and delivering complex software projects.
- Exhibit strong verbal English communication skills to effectively collaborate with cross-functional partners and articulate technical concepts to both technical and non-technical audiences.
- Master participatory management and servant leadership principles, empowering team members to take ownership and fostering a collaborative culture.
- Maintain a pragmatic, quality-focused mindset coupled with excellent problem-solving abilities and critical thinking skills to navigate technical and organizational challenges.
- Demonstrate adaptability and a strong desire to learn, thriving in a fast-paced environment where priorities can shift rapidly.
- Show commitment to continuous improvement by actively seeking feedback and implementing changes that enhance team productivity and software quality.
- Understand the importance of delivering value to the end-user, ensuring that technical decisions directly support business objectives.
- Comply with the working agreement of maintaining a hybrid schedule, which includes a minimum of 6 days in the Barcelona office per month to ensure team cohesion.
