Senior Platform Engineer
Job description
About the role
This position centers on owning the complete platform lifecycle from initial requirement gathering through to production deployment and ongoing optimization. You will architect and safeguard the systems responsible for transporting and processing global sports video feeds, ensuring that analysis platforms for coaches and athletes remain reliable and performant. Your technical decisions will directly influence the development velocity and operational stability for both cloud-based deployments and on-premises installations. The role requires active participation in defining architectural standards and guiding the implementation of platform capabilities that serve a global user base. You will be responsible for translating high-level business objectives into robust technical solutions that balance scalability with operational simplicity. A significant portion of your work will involve mentoring other engineers on best practices and fostering a culture of reliability and ownership across the platform team. You will act as a key technical liaison between development teams and infrastructure operations, ensuring alignment on priorities and constraints. Ultimately, your contributions will shape the foundational systems that enable innovation and efficiency in sports analytics worldwide.

What you'll do
You will design and implement intake pipelines capable of reliably collecting high-volume video streams from stadiums and training facilities distributed across the globe. This involves evaluating and integrating with various capture devices and network conditions to ensure minimal data loss. Responsibilities include shaping the storage foundations that ensure clips and analytical models persist securely across hybrid on-site and cloud environments. You will manage the trade-offs between performance, durability, and cost when selecting storage technologies for different workload patterns. Orchestrating build and deployment operations using the KickOff GitOps platform will be central to your daily work, establishing patterns that allow over one hundred engineers to deploy code with high confidence and reliability. You will define and enforce deployment standards, review pipelines, and rollback procedures to minimize service disruptions. A core part of the role involves championing review practices that identify potential risks early while maintaining predictable and stable release rhythms. You will facilitate cross-team collaboration to ensure that infrastructure changes do not block feature development. You will enable workflows that coordinate updates to cloud infrastructure with scheduled on-premises model training and video processing jobs, ensuring continuity across both environments. This requires a deep understanding of scheduling, resource allocation, and dependency management. The position requires guarding critical partner integrations by maintaining clear, well-defined contracts between recording hardware systems and downstream analysis services. You will document these interfaces rigorously and work closely with hardware vendors to resolve compatibility issues. Driving comprehensive observability is essential, providing teams with clear insights into performance and errors across match footage, training sessions, and model execution pipelines. You will instrument services, define key metrics, and establish dashboards to support proactive incident response. You will also lead the refactoring of infrastructure components to ensure the system can gracefully handle increasing video volumes as the global network of clubs continues to expand. This includes capacity planning, performance tuning, and long-term architectural roadmaps.
Requirements
The ideal candidate commands a minimum of ten years of hands-on experience with Kubernetes and Infrastructure as Code, demonstrated through production-grade implementations. This experience should include designing clusters, managing namespaces, and operating stateful workloads in production. You possess the ability to write robust code that translates complex operational demands into reliable, scalable services, leveraging standard libraries and established design patterns. Your programming skills should enable you to build tools that automate operational tasks and improve developer experience. Success in this role requires the capacity to coordinate multiple interconnected services, ensuring that video processing, training workflows, and analytical platforms operate together seamlessly. You will need to troubleshoot issues that span networking, storage, and application logic. You must have a proven track record of working in fast-paced environments where requirements evolve and ambiguity is common. Strong communication skills are essential for articulating technical concepts to both technical and non-technical stakeholders. You should be comfortable making technical decisions independently while also knowing when to escalate for broader team alignment. A commitment to writing clean, maintainable code and conducting thorough testing is non-negotiable for this role. You must be willing to adhere to the coding standards and architectural guidelines established by the platform team.
Nice to have
Prior experience with broadcast hardware systems and complex on-premises environments is beneficial for navigating the specific constraints and requirements of real-world deployments.
Skills & tools
Core expertise in Kubernetes, GitOps methodologies, Python programming, Amazon Web Services, Kafka messaging, PostgreSQL database administration, and Grafana observability is required for this position. You should be proficient in configuring clusters, managing Helm charts, and debugging network policies within Kubernetes. Experience with Kafka will be used for streaming video metadata and ensuring reliable message delivery. PostgreSQL administration skills are necessary for managing metadata and analytical datasets efficiently. Proficiency in AWS services is expected, given the hybrid nature of the deployment environments. Your Python skills will be used for building automation scripts, custom integrations, and operational tools. Familiarity with Grafana is required to create meaningful dashboards and alerts for system health.
