Senior QA Engineer (Contractor)
Job description
Senior QA Engineer (Contractor) at Trust Wallet.
About the role
This role is for a Senior QE Engineer / SDET who will own and evolve the automation ecosystem across Android and iOS for Trust Wallet. You will operate in a modern TypeScript-first monorepo, building a unified test framework from the ground up while embedding quality gates deep into trunk-based CI/CD pipelines. The position is highly technical, requiring you to design frameworks, own CI/CD reliability, and collaborate closely with mobile and platform engineers to shift quality left. You will be responsible for establishing standards and best practices that define how quality is measured and enforced across the mobile products. This is a hands-on role that demands strong ownership of the entire testing lifecycle from test design to production observability.
Key facts
What you'll do
- Own the automation testing platform for mobile (iOS/Android) end-to-end.
- Build and maintain our unified QE SDK using WebdriverIO and TypeScript.
- Integrate testing into CI/CD using GitHub Actions to manage smoke, regression, and release-gate pipelines.
- Implement best practices for test parallelisation, tagging, stability, and flake detection with automatic quarantine.
- Improve test observability through dashboards, trend tracking, and artefact management for test runs.
- Manage device farm coverage strategy via cloud device providers, optimising device matrix, session configuration, and cost efficiency.
- Contribute to QE SDK onboarding by creating Claude Code skills and updating contribution guidelines.
- Mentor engineers on testing techniques, CI/CD integration, and reliability practices to elevate the team's capability.
Requirements
- Possess 3+ years in QA automation / SDET roles with demonstrated end-to-end framework ownership.
- Have strong hands-on experience with TypeScript, as it is the primary language used for all automation efforts.
- Bring experience with mobile automation (iOS and Android), focusing on deep understanding rather than specific framework details.
- Show proven ability to build and maintain CI/CD pipelines within GitHub Actions for mobile workflows.
- Demonstrate solid understanding of flake root causes, including retry strategies, quarantine mechanisms, and stability metrics analysis.
- Exhibit familiarity with Web3 or blockchain concepts at an engineering level, including wallets, transactions, signing, and networks.
- Maintain excellent collaboration and async communication skills to thrive in a remote-first team environment.
Nice to have
- Gain an advantage with experience in WebdriverIO and/or Appium used in our current stack.
- Show background in integrating feature flag systems into automated test sessions.
- Have prior work on quality dashboards or data-driven test analytics.
- Demonstrate exposure to containerised or cloud-based test infrastructure.
- Bring experience with performance or visual regression testing methodologies.
Who will thrive here
This role is not intended for individuals who treat testing as a simple checklist task. You will join at a foundational stage where your influence over architecture decisions will be significant, accompanied by real accountability for outcomes. Success requires a history of solving the pain caused by an unreliable test suite and actively fixing systemic issues. You must possess opinions about test design that extend beyond merely writing more tests and consider coverage in terms of risk rather than percentages. The ideal candidate has built automation infrastructure from scratch rather than solely maintaining existing systems. We operate at a fast pace with high standards, seeking someone who can immediately contribute to architectural stability.
Practical notes
This is a global and fully remote role. You must have the right to work for the country you are based.
