About the role
TheFork, a Tripadvisor company, is actively looking for a skilled Quality Automation Engineer to join our engineering organization. This role involves developing and maintaining automation frameworks and tooling that enable our squads to uphold high standards of quality across our European restaurant booking platform. You will be instrumental in building scalable, reliable, and efficient testing infrastructure, ensuring that our digital products meet the highest quality benchmarks. Key facts
What you'll do
- Design, develop, and scale automation frameworks and internal tools using Playwright and TypeScript to support testing activities across multiple squads.
- Act as the technical architect for the test ecosystem, managing repositories, maintaining code health, and ensuring best practices are followed.
- Create SDKs, utility libraries, and reusable components that help developers write reliable, maintainable, and scalable tests.
- Define and implement strategies for test layering, data isolation, and environment stability to improve test reliability and reduce flakiness.
- Collaborate closely with feature teams to improve the testability of APIs, front-end interfaces, and data pipelines, ensuring integration of testing practices into the development process.
- Manage and optimize Jenkins pipelines to reduce execution times, improve stability, and minimize flaky test results.
- Integrate AI-driven testing tools and large language models (LLMs) into the development workflows to enhance testing efficiency and coverage.
- Mentor other engineers, share best practices, and establish quality metrics to monitor and improve testing effectiveness across the organization.
- Participate in code reviews, contribute to documentation, and promote a culture of quality and continuous improvement within the engineering teams.
- Stay updated with the latest trends and advancements in automation testing, AI integration, and related technologies to bring innovative solutions to the team.
Requirements
- 2 to 5 years of hands-on experience as an Software Development Engineer in Test (SDET) or Quality Engineer, with a proven track record of designing and implementing automation frameworks.
- Strong proficiency in TypeScript or JavaScript, with a focus on writing clean, scalable, and maintainable code.
- Experience architecting automation frameworks from scratch, with a preference for Playwright, demonstrating the ability to build and reusable testing solutions.
- Deep understanding of test design patterns, including the test pyramid, and strategies for data management and environment configuration.
- Practical experience configuring, managing, and optimizing CI/CD pipelines, specifically with Jenkins, to support automated testing workflows.
- Knowledge of testing REST and GraphQL interfaces, including best practices for API testing and validation.
- Fluent in English, both written and spoken, with excellent communication skills to collaborate effectively across teams.
- Ability to troubleshoot complex issues, analyze test failures, and implement solutions to improve test stability and reliability.
- Strong organizational skills, with the ability to manage multiple tasks and prioritize effectively in a fast-paced environment.
Nice to have
- Background in backend development, particularly with Node.js, to better understand and test server-side components.
- Experience building internal developer platforms or custom command-line interface (CLI) tools to streamline testing and development workflows.
- Advanced Playwright skills, including creating custom reporters, fixtures, and parallelization strategies to optimize test execution.
- Familiarity with Docker, ephemeral environments, and observability tools to support testing in isolated and scalable environments.
- Experience working with SonarQube or SonarCloud for code quality analysis and quality gate enforcement.
- Practical knowledge of AI-assisted testing workflows, including integrating AI tools to enhance test coverage and efficiency.
