This Mortgage Loan Officer position is based in Detroit, Michigan, operating in a hybrid environment with in-office requirements Monday through Wednesday and remote flexibility for Thursday and Friday. The role reports directly to the Sales Manager and requires an active NMLS MLO License to practice in the state of Michigan.
What You'll Do
You will advise Tomo's prospective homebuyers and guide them through the home financing process with a high degree of autonomy while adhering to strict compliance standards that protect both the customer and the company. You will operate as a trusted advisor, building authentic relationships throughout the homebuying journey.
You will work hand in hand with other internal sales and operations teams to ensure smooth and frictionless manufacturing of loans, removing all roadblocks in the pipeline. You will manage a pipeline of warm leads, converting them into closed business with excellence that surpasses industry benchmarks for productivity.
Your approach will be creative and solution-oriented, identifying solutions to meet unique customer needs while taking a consultative approach. You will ensure strict compliance with investor guidelines for all documents required for Underwriting submission. You will quote rates and guidelines with accuracy and fairness, maintaining transparency in all interactions.
You will become an expert in our POS, CRM, and LOS systems to facilitate a more efficient and accurate loan process. You will analyze complex scenarios using Desktop Underwriter and Loan Prospector to determine optimal loan pathways. This role requires balancing a "hunter" and "gatherer" mindset, actively building new business while nurturing referrals and repeat clients.
You will identify potential roadblocks before they arise and communicate anticipatory solutions to buyers and real estate partners. You will drive the home loan process from initial contact to funding, embodying the standard for excellence in every transaction. You will continuously refine your personal workflow to handle high volumes of transactions without sacrificing accuracy or compliance.
Requirements
You must possess an active NMLS Mortgage Loan Originator (MLO) License to practice in the state of Michigan. You will bring a minimum of two years of residential mortgage lending experience with a proven track record of success in the field.
You will demonstrate expert-level verbal and written communication skills for interactions with clients, agents, and internal Tomo team members. You will exhibit the ability to build trust and rapport quickly with borrowers, real estate agents, and underwriting partners.
You will maintain a hunter and gatherer mindset, balancing new business acquisition with the nurturing of existing relationships. You will show comprehensive knowledge of residential loan products, pricing strategies, and current market conditions.
You will utilize proficiency in Desktop Underwriter (DU) and Loan Prospector/Loan Product Advisor (LP/LPA) for efficient decision-making and meticulous organization. You will manage multiple transactions simultaneously while maintaining attention to detail.
You will display strong problem-solving skills to anticipate and resolve customer needs throughout the entire loan lifecycle. You will embrace a detail-oriented mindset to ensure every file meets the highest standards of quality and compliance.
Preferred Qualifications
Previous experience in a tech startup environment where agility and innovation are valued is preferred for this role.
