This role is responsible for owning the end-to-end business operations and programme management lifecycle for our European and UK defence contracts, ensuring that commercial opportunities are captured, translated into executable programmes, and delivered with strict adherence to schedule, budget, and quality. The hire will architect and maintain the operational backbone that links commercial pipeline visibility with rigorous delivery discipline across the EMEA region. They will enforce governance, mitigate cross-border risks, and ensure that every programme aligns with our commitments to national security partners and regulatory frameworks. Success in this position will be defined by the ability to bring structure and predictability to a fast-scaling environment while safeguarding our compliance posture. The individual will serve as the critical bridge between US corporate strategy and local European execution, translating global objectives into regional operational reality.

What you'll do

You will exercise end-to-end ownership of programme management and business operations for European and UK defence contracts, establishing robust governance from opportunity capture to final delivery. You will architect and sustain the commercial pipeline infrastructure in Salesforce, ensuring data integrity, traceability, and real-time visibility for leadership and stakeholders. Through proactive risk and issue management, you will drive mitigation strategies for supply chain bottlenecks, export licensing delays, and technical execution gaps across the programme lifecycle. You will coordinate cross-functional teams spanning engineering, quality, commercial, and supply chain, synchronising efforts between our US headquarters and European/UK delivery centres. You will manage UK and European manufacturing partners and sub-contractors, enforcing quality standards such as AS9100 and AQAP 2110 through rigorous oversight of performance and contractual flow-downs. You will establish and maintain compliance with export control regimes including ITAR, EAR, and AUKUS, while ensuring full alignment with GDPR and local MoD security requirements. You will build and own dashboards and executive reporting packs, providing clear insight into milestone attainment, project financial health, and forecasted revenue to support strategic decision-making. You will design and implement practical standard operating procedures and operating rhythms, such as weekly and monthly programme reviews, to instil structure without introducing bureaucracy. You will partner with legal, risk, and IT teams to coordinate insurance, indemnification, DEFCONs, and product liability requirements embedded in sub-contractor agreements. You will act as the primary interface with UK and European defence authorities and prime contractors, ensuring that regulatory expectations and quality management systems are consistently met.

Requirements

You must possess a minimum of 7 years of progressive experience in business operations, programme management, or commercial operations within the aerospace, defence, or government contracting sectors. You must hold a recognised programme management qualification such as PMP, PRINCE2, or APM, with a proven track record of managing complex technical projects or manufacturing programmes. You must demonstrate deep familiarity with UK and European defence procurement frameworks, including NATO processes, national Ministry of Defence procedures, and the expectations of tier-1 prime contractors. You must have hands-on experience with quality management systems aligned with AS9100 and ISO 9001, ensuring that operational processes consistently meet stringent aerospace standards. You must exhibit a working knowledge of export control regulations, including ITAR and EAR, as well as data privacy frameworks such as GDPR and AUKUS-related compliance considerations. You must be capable of obtaining and maintaining UK Security Check (SC) clearance, or an equivalent national security vetting, as required for access to sensitive defence information. You must communicate with exceptional clarity and professionalism, enabling effective collaboration with distributed teams across European time zones and executive stakeholders based in the United States. You must be able to interpret complex contractual terms and translate them into operational requirements for manufacturing, quality, and supply chain partners. You must manage multiple priorities in a high-stakes environment, balancing commercial ambition with regulatory constraints and delivery timelines. You must demonstrate integrity in handling sensitive information, ensuring that all commercial and technical data remains secure and appropriately governed.

Nice to have

Direct experience operating within a fast-paced, scaling business or establishing local operations for a US parent company in the European context. Direct experience with UK Ministry of Defence DEFCONs and Defence Equipment and Support quality frameworks. Fluency in a second European language in addition to English, enabling more effective engagement with local stakeholders and partners. Experience managing complex, three-way or international sub-contracting structures that involve layered accountability and compliance requirements.

Practical notes

This is a remote, Europe-based role requiring occasional travel to customer sites, regulatory bodies, and partner facilities as dictated by programme needs and security protocols.
