What you'll do
- Mentor and manage software engineers, conducting regular check-ins and supporting their professional development through structured growth plans.
- Partner with product and business stakeholders to dissect requirements and translate them into clear, actionable development plans with defined success metrics.
- Oversee delivery schedules, tracking progress against milestones to ensure high-quality software is shipped on time and meets business objectives.
- Lead the recruitment lifecycle, from sourcing diverse candidates to conducting interviews and designing robust onboarding experiences for new hires.
- Shape team culture by promoting collaboration, accountability, and continuous improvement through feedback loops and retrospectives.
- Provide technical direction by facilitating architecture discussions and helping the team navigate complex architectural choices that impact scalability and maintainability.
- Remove blockers and manage distractions proactively, ensuring the team can maintain deep focus and consistent productivity on critical initiatives.
- Define and evolve development standards and AI-assisted workflows that balance speed with reliability, security, and long-term maintainability.
- Collaborate with operations and customer success teams to align on deployment strategies, incident response, and customer support processes.
- Review code and participate in technical planning sessions to uphold high standards and share knowledge across the engineering organization.
- Champion the responsible use of AI tools, establishing guidelines that improve velocity while maintaining rigorous security, quality, and compliance standards.
- Hire for product sense, verification skills, and sound judgment, building a team that values critical thinking over merely raw output.
Requirements
- 5+ years of software development experience, with a proven track record of writing clean, maintainable code in professional settings.
- 2+ years of experience in a team lead or management capacity, demonstrating the ability to influence without direct authority.
- Experience managing teams that build web applications, preferably using Elixir/Phoenix or comparable modern technology stacks that emphasize concurrency and fault tolerance.
- Strong grasp of Agile methodologies, CI/CD pipelines, testing strategies, and code review processes to ensure sustainable and high-quality delivery.
- Proficiency with modern AI development tools and a clear strategy for how they impact team performance, productivity, and future hiring decisions.
- Proven ability to build, retain, and develop engineering teams through coaching, feedback, and career pathing.
- Excellent communication skills for both technical and non-technical stakeholders, enabling clear articulation of goals, trade-offs, and progress.
- Experience managing delivery across multiple initiatives, balancing priorities, resources, and timelines effectively.
- Ability to make decisions in ambiguous environments, using data, intuition, and collaboration to move projects forward.

Compensation is based on On-Target Earnings, which includes base salary and target bonuses, adjusted for experience and location.
