This role is based at THG ICON, 7-9 Sunbank Ln, Altrincham WA15 0AF, UK. The position requires travel across UK and international manufacturing sites as required. Candidates must be eligible to work in the United Kingdom without sponsorship. The listed salary is indicative and may be adjusted based on experience and internal equity, up to £55,000 per annum plus benefits.
What you'll do
You will own the end-to-end microbiological strategy for THG Nutrition across all global manufacturing sites. You will establish and maintain the technical governance framework for all microbiological risk and compliance activities. You will lead the development and validation of sterilisation and preservation technologies for shelf stable products. You will act as the central subject matter expert for food safety legislation and microbiological specifications relevant to the global nutrition market. You will partner with commercial, quality and regulatory teams to safeguard brand integrity and consumer safety worldwide. You will drive continuous improvement in laboratory methods and data interpretation to support faster, evidence based decision making.
- Execute the global microbiological strategy and technical roadmap for THG Nutrition manufacturing operations.
- Champion the implementation of food safety management systems aligned with BRCGS and ISO 22000 standards across all sites.
- Define and validate sterilisation and preservation technologies to guarantee product integrity and consumer safety.
- Own the technical governance of microbiological risk assessments and corrective action programmes for global compliance.
- Develop and maintain microbiological specifications and testing protocols for raw materials, intermediates and finished goods.
- Analyse complex laboratory data and translate findings into actionable controls and process improvements.
- Lead investigations into out of specification events and coordinate root cause analysis with cross functional teams.
- Partner with regulatory affairs to ensure alignment with evolving legislation in key international markets.
- Collaborate with commercial stakeholders to support product launches and portfolio decisions with microbiological insight.
- Drive innovation in rapid microbiological methods to enhance confidence, speed and cost efficiency.
- Establish global standard operating procedures to ensure consistent microbiological performance and audit readiness.
- Mentor and develop microbiology staff to elevate technical capability and laboratory excellence across the network.
- Serve as the primary technical authority for microbiology during customer and regulatory audits.
Requirements
You hold a relevant degree in Microbiology, Food Science, Biotechnology or a related scientific discipline. You possess extensive experience in microbiology within the food, nutrition or pharmaceutical manufacturing environment. You hold current knowledge of international food safety standards and microbiological compliance requirements. You demonstrate advanced expertise in risk assessment, trend analysis and data driven decision making. You have a proven track record managing complex investigations and implementing effective corrective actions. You show strong leadership skills and the ability to influence stakeholders across multiple locations and functions. You communicate complex technical information clearly to both specialist and non specialist audiences. You are highly proficient in laboratory methods, data analysis and the interpretation of microbiological results.
- Experience in fast moving consumer goods or sports nutrition sectors.
- Familiarity with global e commerce supply chain and quality challenges.
- Proficiency in statistical analysis tools and data visualisation platforms.
- Knowledge of regulatory affairs for nutrition products in key export markets.
- Experience with digital laboratory informatics and automated data capture systems.
