About the role
The New York Times seeks a Senior Producer to join the Reporter Video team, a multi-disciplinary unit dedicated to producing groundbreaking short-form digital journalism that advances the mission of seeking the truth and helping people understand the world. This role owns the full lifecycle of video storytelling, from initial concept and editorial strategy through production, review, and final delivery across digital platforms. You will lead story development for high-impact visual narratives, working directly with reporters to shape on-camera coverage and investigative pieces. You will foster experimentation with new video formats and distribution strategies while maintaining the highest standards of journalistic integrity. As a team leader, you will manage video journalists, provide editorial guidance, and act as a critical bridge between reporting desks and video leadership. The position requires a strong command of sound editorial decision-making and the ability to thrive in a fast-paced, deadline-driven newsroom. This is a Tuesday
Saturday hybrid role based in New York City with regular in-office requirements and some flexibility for remote work per departmental guidance.

What you'll do
- Build on existing Reporter Video formats and foster experiments with new video concepts and strategies.
- Lead story development and story edits for urgent and enterprise reporting projects.
- Support and guide script writing and visual approaches to ensure effective short-form videos.
- Review, assign, and provide feedback on stories across the reporting spectrum.
- Oversee production across multiple concurrent projects from conception to completion.
- Guide interviews and shoots as needed to capture compelling on-camera and field material.
- Manage video journalists on the team, including workflow, mentorship, and performance.
- Deepen integration with coverage desks through strong relationships, serving as a connective bridge to video leadership.
- Collaborate and coordinate on weekend breaking news coverage in a dynamic news cycle.
- Demonstrate support and understanding of the value of journalistic independence and a strong commitment to the mission to seek the truth and help people understand the world.
- Partner with visuals and technology teams to leverage motion graphics, archival footage, and emerging tools.
- Ensure all content meets NYT standards for accuracy, fairness, and impact before publication.
Requirements
- 8+ years producing digital news videos.
- 4+ years experience managing video journalists.
- Broad and in-depth experience in digital or broadcast news.
- Demonstrated deep command of a variety of visual devices including original footage, motion graphics, and archival footage.
- Understanding of mainstream and emerging social channels.
- Demonstrated ability to make sound editorial decisions under tight deadlines.
- Experience working on news, features, enterprise and investigative projects is an asset.
- Strong people management skills and the ability to provide thoughtful, constructive feedback.
- Comfortable enforcing deadlines and working autonomously in a fast-paced environment.
- Excellent communicator capable of collaborating effectively with desks across the newsroom.
- Commitment to The New York Times mission and adherence to its journalistic standards.
- Willingness to work regular hours including Tuesday through Saturday, with potential for overtime during breaking news.
- Willingness to maintain regular attendance in the office four days each week as a hybrid employee.
- Ability to travel domestically for shoots or coverage as required by story assignments.

Practical notes
This position follows a Tuesday through Saturday schedule in a hybrid work model based in New York, requiring regular office attendance four days per week. The role reports directly to the senior executive producer, Reporter Video.
