About the role
The Exploration Company is seeking a highly motivated AIT Thermal & Qualification Intern to join our team in Munich, Germany, where you will play a critical role in ensuring the success of our Nyx program. In this position, you will own the qualification of thermo-mechanical processes for Flight Model 1, taking responsibility for defining the qualification plan that guides all testing activities. You will own the support of Thermal Control System setup preparation and testing, ensuring all configurations meet strict operational requirements. Your ownership will extend to defining the integration and test sequence, establishing a clear pathway for hardware verification. You will also own the procurement of parts for the test, securing all necessary materials in a timely manner. Furthermore, you will own procedures writing, documenting every step of the qualification, integration, and test operations for clarity and repeatability. You will take ownership of improving processes and procedures by applying lessons learnt from previous operations to drive continuous enhancement. Finally, you will own support for the team in other factory setup tasks as the company grows, with the scope evolving alongside mission needs.
Key facts
What you'll do
- You will support the qualification of several processes, including bonding and calibration of sensors, and validation of foam fixation within the Capsule.
- You will support testing of the qualification either internally or externally, including coordination with all stakeholders to ensure alignment and progress.
- You will prepare the test plan and the procedures, as well as the coupons required for testing to ensure all prerequisites are in place.
- You will support the integration and test of the Active Thermal Control System, verifying functionality and compliance.
- You will support the procurement of tools needed for qualification, testing, and integration activities.
- You will support the writing of detailed procedures covering qualification, integration, and test operations for team-wide understanding.
- You will take responsibility for improving processes and procedures by applying lessons learnt from previous operations to optimize workflows.
- You may have to support the team in other factory setups as we are a growing company, with the perimeter evolving along with the mission.
Requirements
- You are currently studying for an Engineering degree (Master) in mechanical science or equivalent.
- You possess experience with CAD software, preferably with Siemens NX.
- You have past experience with thermal setup, which will be a plus.
- You have experience in procedure writing with a MES and in inventory management with an ERP.
- You have past experience in a cleanroom environment, which will be a plus.
- You have experience with fluidic and harness routing in Siemens NX, which is a strong plus.
- You are willing to contribute to building and supporting a new team as we scale operations.
- You are independent, organized, and rigorous in your approach to tasks and documentation.
- You have a hands-on approach to problem-solving and implementation.
- You are inventive and demonstrate strong problem-solving skills in technical environments.
- You work well within a team, demonstrating team spirit and collaboration.
- You show good organizing and prioritization of tasks to meet project deadlines.
- You maintain a positive and flexible attitude to get the job done under varying conditions.
- You are able to communicate effectively at all levels of the business, ensuring clarity and alignment.

- Travel: The role is based in Munich, Germany, and may involve travel to other locations for testing or coordination with stakeholders as required by project needs.
