About the role
Telesat is on a mission to establish the Lightspeed LEO network, which aims to deliver high-speed, low-latency global broadband services starting in 2027. In this pivotal role, you will be responsible for ensuring the integration, testing, and operational readiness of the Satellite Control System for this innovative satellite constellation. Your work will serve as a vital link between engineering design and the day-to-day operations of satellite flight.
Key facts
What you'll do
- Lead the integration efforts of various components within the Satellite Control System while developing operational products that meet mission requirements.
- Supervise the verification, validation, and testing processes for systems utilized in the Satellite Operations Centre, ensuring they meet quality standards.
- Establish and refine operational concepts for both standard operational phases and the critical Launch and Early Orbit Phases (LEOP).
- Regularly maintain and update all satellite operating procedures and documentation to reflect current practices and protocols.
- Collaborate closely with the Space Segment team to enhance and adapt operational strategies for improved performance.
- Assist in the automation of operational tasks, monitoring system performance to identify areas for improvement.
- Contribute to the design and upkeep of the Satellite Data Platform, focusing on the analysis and trending of telemetry data.
- Offer technical guidance and training to satellite controllers, fostering a culture of continuous learning and improvement.
Requirements
- A Bachelor's or Master's degree in Electrical, Aerospace, Computer, or Mechanical Engineering is essential for this role.
- A minimum of 6 to 9 years of relevant professional experience in Satellite Operations Engineering is required.
- A thorough understanding of satellite subsystem operations, control systems, radio frequency communications, and electronics is crucial.
- A proven track record in aerospace technology and the development of satellite operations software is highly desirable.
- Proficiency in coding across various platforms and programming tools is necessary to support operational tasks.
- Strong analytical problem-solving skills, along with the ability to make real-time decisions and plan effectively, are essential.
- Fluency in English, both spoken and written, is required for effective communication within the team and with stakeholders.
- The ability to work independently as well as collaboratively within a technical team is important for success in this role.
Nice to have
- Familiarity with Python programming would be advantageous.
- Experience in Machine Learning and Data Analytics is a plus, enhancing operational capabilities.
- Knowledge of containerized software platforms can be beneficial for system development and deployment.
