About the role
The owns the end to end architecture and delivery of the Flight Dynamics System automation backbone for the LEO Segment Operations Control Center. This role sits at the intersection of mission operations and software engineering, translating complex orbital mechanics requirements into robust, scalable software solutions. The hired individual will be responsible for designing, implementing, and maintaining the scripts, workflows, and toolchains that keep the LEO constellation operating reliably and securely. You will ensure that operational procedures are supported by dependable and maintainable software artifacts that stand up to rigorous testing and real time execution. Collaboration with engineers, operators, and stakeholders will drive clarity of requirements and continuous improvement of the FDS platform. The focus will be on building automation that enhances reliability, repeatability, and efficiency across satellite operations. You will contribute to a world class satellite operations capability that supports Telesat's global communications mission. This position directly supports the success of the LEO Lightspeed network and the evolution of flight dynamics practices at scale.

What you'll do
Design and develop software components that form the automation backbone of the Flight Dynamics System for LEO operations.
Implement and maintain operational scripts and workflows that integrate satellite propagation, maneuver planning, and collision assessment logic.
Collaborate closely with mission operations teams to translate complex flight dynamics requirements into functional software solutions.
Ensure the reliability, scalability, and maintainability of FDS tools, processes, and pipelines through rigorous testing and documentation.
Automate routine and complex operational tasks to reduce manual effort and improve accuracy of mission support activities.
Partner with software engineering and operations stakeholders to define standards, best practices, and continuous improvement initiatives.
Support the integration of new LEO satellites into the existing constellation operations framework through adaptable automation.
Lead the development of toolchains that enable efficient monitoring, analysis, and reporting of satellite states and maneuvers.
Drive adoption of automated workflows by providing training, guidance, and operational support to flight dynamics teams.
Champion software quality, version control, and configuration management practices across the FDS environment.
Coordinate with ground segment and network teams to align FDS automation with broader mission objectives and timelines.
Contribute to the evolution of mission operations processes by identifying opportunities for automation and optimization.
Participate in on call rotations and incident response activities to address operational issues affecting the flight dynamics systems.
Act as a technical leader in flight dynamics automation, mentoring team members and fostering a culture of engineering excellence.
Requirements
Must be a Canadian citizen or permanent resident eligible for a security clearance as determined by Government of Canada standards.
Must hold a Bachelor's degree in Aerospace Engineering, Physics, Mathematics, Computer Science, or a closely related technical field.
Must possess a strong understanding of orbital mechanics, satellite operations, and space mission dynamics.
Must have demonstrated experience with scripting and programming, preferably in Python, C++, or similar languages.
Must have experience with software development practices including version control, testing, and continuous integration.
Must be able to obtain and maintain a Canadian Government Security Clearance at the appropriate level.
Must have excellent analytical and problem solving skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast paced environment.
Must have strong written and verbal communication skills to effectively collaborate with technical and operations teams.
Nice to have
Experience with flight dynamics software, satellite toolchains, or mission operations systems.
Familiarity with LEO satellite constellations and related operational challenges.
Background in aerospace operations, ground segment software, or satellite control centers.
Experience with containerization, cloud infrastructure, or modern DevOps practices.
Knowledge of orbital analysis tools such as STK, GMAT, or similar platforms.

This role may require occasional travel to support mission operations as needed.
