About the role

This role produces visual journalism for local audiences across multiple platforms. The position focuses on telling stories for community connection through trusted local reporting. You will act as a visual storyteller capturing moments that inform and connect the community. The position requires a strong sense of ownership over the visual narrative from capture to publication. You will manage the full lifecycle of imagery and video for local news stories. This includes shooting, editing, and delivering content that meets strict journalistic standards. You will collaborate closely with reporters and producers to enhance storytelling through multimedia. The role demands adaptability to cover a wide range of topics in a fast-paced news environment.

This position is based at KSDK-TV Saint Louis and operates within the KSDK-TV Saint Louis newsroom. The role reports within this established team structure. The work involves both team or solo daily assignments. The role produces content for community connection through trusted local reporting. You will tell stories for local audiences across multiple platforms.

What you'll do

Operates an ENG truck or an IP video-based live unit, such as a TVU, when field assignments require it. Attends editorial meetings, participates in discussions, and suggests story ideas to guide coverage. with or without accommodation when field work requires it.

Maintains camera equipment and ensures all gear is ready for rapid deployment in the field. Captures high-quality still photography and video in diverse environments, including low-light and breaking news situations. Reviews and selects the most compelling images that accurately represent the story and adhere to ethical standards. Edits video footage and photographs using non-linear editing systems to produce polished segments for broadcast and digital platforms. Manages digital assets and organizes media files to ensure efficient retrieval and archival compliance. Responds to live, breaking news and evolving events with calm precision under tight time constraints.

Attends editorial meetings and participates in discussions. Suggests story ideas to guide coverage. Demonstrates photojournalism, editing, and content management systems experience. Generates creative, engaging, content-driven live shots. Participates in the National Press Photographers Association, which is preferred.

Requirements

Holds a current driver's license and demonstrates the ability to operate a news-gathering vehicle to and from various locations. Earns a bachelor's degree in journalism, communications, or a related field or equivalent professional experience. Brings 3+ years of preferred experience in a newsroom environment. Shows experience in photojournalism, editing, and content management systems. Demonstrates proven ability to generate creative, engaging, content-driven live shots. Acts as an active participant in the National Press Photographers Association, which is preferred. Demonstrates strong news judgment, writing skills, photography experience, and non-linear editing skills. Understands core principles of professional journalism. Shows knowledge of EDIUS or any non-linear base editing system as preferred. Organizes tasks effectively and works under constant time-pressure deadlines. Responds calmly to live, breaking news and evolving events. Meets physical demands including lifting up to 40 lbs. and occasionally up to 80 lbs. with or without accommodation.

Candidates must possess a Bachelor's degree in journalism, communications, or a related field preferred or equivalent experience. They must hold a current driver's license. They must bring 1-3 years of preferred experience in a newsroom environment. The role requires showing experience in photojournalism, editing, and content management systems.

Compensation and Benefits
