About the role

This position is responsible for editing and packaging video content specifically for KPNX/12News under strict broadcast deadlines. The role requires taking incoming video feeds, meticulously tuning broadcast equipment, and delivering high-quality, station-produced video to both the network and TEGNA sister stations. Success in this position is heavily dependent on seamless teamwork, clear communication, and the ability to solve creative problems in real time. The hire will be entrusted with maintaining the technical and editorial integrity of the news video pipeline. What you'll do

Produce storytelling that meets uncompromising journalistic standards for local news broadcasts and digital distribution channels.

Rewrite video elements such as voice-overs, SOTS, packages, graphics, opens, and teases to ensure they are broadcast-ready for both air and online distribution.

Ensure technical quality by reviewing video feeds and correcting video or audio issues before content goes to air.

Design and implement graphics that strengthen the narrative of stories and directly support the broader editorial goals of the newsroom.

Handle urgent and accurate work during breaking news events and live broadcasts that span both on-air and online channels simultaneously.

Manage multiple complex tasks concurrently, including editing, capturing feeds, transferring FTP material, and tracking strict deadlines with precision.

Drive required vehicles such as oversize mast live trucks, vans, and other vehicles as dictated by the needs of the assignment.

Perform essential duties within an office environment that involves sedentary work, requiring prolonged periods of sitting, walking, lifting, bending, and standing.

Travel rarely, typically less than 10 percent of the time, ensuring that the majority of work is completed from the primary work location.

Collaborate closely with producers, reporters, and control room staff to maintain a cohesive and efficient news operation.

Requirements

Hold a valid driver's license with a clean driving record and a proven ability to operate vehicles safely in a professional capacity.

Possess a minimum of 3 to 5 years of hands-on experience as a non-linear editor, with a strong preference for candidates with experience in local TV news environments.

Demonstrate the ability to work flexible hours, including evenings, weekends, holidays, and overtime, to meet the demands of breaking news and broadcast schedules.

Perform all job duties effectively within an office setting that involves sedentary work, including sitting, walking, lifting items, bending, and standing for extended periods.

Travel is infrequent, generally limited to less than 10 percent of total time, aligning with the standard operational needs of the news team.

Obtain and maintain a valid state driver's license suitable for operating a vehicle to the legal standards of the state of Arizona.

Secure and maintain US work authorization as required by federal law and company policy for all employees in this role.

Earn a bachelor's degree from an accredited institution as a non-negotiable qualification for this position.

Demonstrate a commitment to accuracy, speed, and quality control in a fast-paced broadcast environment.

Be prepared to pass a background check and meet any additional station-specific requirements for newsroom personnel.

Nice to have

Previous experience with Edius video editing software and ENPS (Electronic News Production System) workflows.

Demonstrated ability to operate DSLR cameras and create high-quality content with minimal supervision or additional support.
