Practical notes
This role may be covered by a collective bargaining agreement, which can affect benefits and work terms for some positions. Some newsroom positions follow union administered health and retirement plans. Typical interview steps include a portfolio review, a design exercise, and a team conversation where candidates present past work and explain their process and decisions. Some loops include a live design challenge to assess real time problem solving and communication. Communication matters as much as the visual output, and portfolios are strongest when they show the problem, the constraints, and the iteration, not just the final screens. Interviewers also watch how candidates take feedback and respond to collaborative critique.
