Senior Account Manager
Job description
About the role
This role partners with sales teams to manage key national accounts in broadcast and streaming. The position drives incremental revenue while coordinating cross-functional support and translating client goals into measurable campaigns.
Sales roles connect a company's product with the customers who need it. Representatives research accounts, run demos, handle objections, and close deals. The work is quota driven and moves quickly. Strong sellers combine listening skills with product knowledge and steady follow through. Sales roles reward consistent activity and honest qualification of deals. Most companies use a defined sales process, and reps are trained on it before being left on their own.
Key facts
What you'll do
High-level customer service is maintained by the designated account manager through daily interaction with agency contacts and client partners. Client KPIs are established and progress is measured with internal partners, while issues are resolved and clients are advocated for in stakeholder conversations. Billing discrepancies are initially handled and resolved by the point of contact. Necessary client communication for custom implementations, including website pixel onboarding, first-party data onboarding, and custom reporting needs, is owned by the role.
Requirements
Relevant advertising experience of four or more years is required, including prior account management or client services work. The ability to build strong internal and external relationships while balancing competing priorities across multiple projects is demonstrated through cross-functional teamwork. Proven client-centric communication and stakeholder management drive incremental revenue and show a track record of success. Creative solutions for client needs are generated through detail-oriented follow-up without close supervision. Experience managing major national accounts reflects positive client feedback and retention. Preferred tools include FreeWheel, Salesforce, and Placements.io for ad technology, along with DCM, DoubleVerify, and Innovid for third-party tracking. Professional proficiency in PowerPoint, Word, and Excel is required. The position is based in Phoenix or New York.
Practical notes
The role may be covered by a collective bargaining agreement, so some benefits may differ for union-represented newsroom staff. EEO commitments ensure equal opportunity regardless of background, with accommodations available for qualified individuals with disabilities. Typical interview steps
Sales hiring often includes a role play, a discovery call simulation, and a presentation. Candidates may be asked to pitch a product to a panel or handle a tough objection. Behavioral questions focus on past quota attainment and deal history. Energy and preparation matter. Interviewers often simulate the job in the interview itself, so be ready to run a short discovery call or demo. Practicing your own sales pitch out loud helps.
Good to know
Professionals in this role manage complex accounts and translate client goals into measurable campaigns. Broadcast and streaming workflows rely on ad technology and data platforms. Clear communication and structured reporting are central to client success. Cross-functional collaboration supports strategy, creative, and operations teams. The role often requires mentoring and knowledge sharing within the account management group.
Questions to ask
Useful questions for the interview: what a typical week looks like, how work is assigned, what tools the team uses, and how feedback works. Asking how the role has changed recently and what the team wishes it had known when joining is also reasonable. Questions about the manager's priorities are especially valued.
Career growth
Sales careers can move from SDR or associate to account executive, senior AE, manager, and director roles. Some sellers move into partnerships, account management, or revenue operations. Compensation typically mixes a base with commission tied to results. High performers in sales typically move into larger accounts, team leadership, or sales operations. Quota history and references carry the most weight in promotion.
