Designer II - Security
Job description
About the role
You will own the development and delivery of security technology design components within project models, ensuring that all security systems are accurately represented in coordination with the broader building systems. You will apply established BIM workflows and modeling standards to security-specific families, working with increasing independence to produce construction-ready documentation. You will support engineers and project teams by maintaining model integrity, updating security-related drawings, and participating in early QA checks to reduce downstream issues. You will collaborate closely with technical mentors and production staff to refine security system logic, resolve interdisciplinary clashes, and uphold project quality expectations. As you grow in confidence, you will take ownership of coordination tasks that span across security, networking, and AV systems to ensure cohesive integration. You will identify potential coordination risks related to security devices, pathways, and infrastructure, proposing model-based solutions that align with project constraints. You will reinforce Teecom's documentation standards by organizing security content, maintaining parameter consistency, and supporting structured model reviews. Over time, this role will build your capacity to manage more complex security-related deliverables with reduced supervision and greater ownership.
Key facts
What you'll do
Develop and modify security system models, including access control, video surveillance, intrusion detection, and related infrastructure components.
Update construction documents and model views to reflect security system layouts, device schedules, and installation requirements for project teams.
Coordinate security-related elements with other disciplines such as IT, AV, networking, and building systems to maintain constructability and spatial integration.
Support production tasks by preparing model exports, views, and annotation sets that meet project documentation and quality standards.
Perform initial model and document reviews focused on security systems, identifying potential conflicts, missing data, or detailing gaps.
Organize security content within project models using consistent naming, phasing, and classification approaches to improve clarity and usability.
Contribute to coordination meetings and issue reviews by providing accurate security model status and surfacing dependencies with other trades.
Assist in maintaining Teecom's BIM standards by creating and updating security-specific families, parameters, and detail components as needed.
Document security system logic and installation requirements within model notes and specifications to support downstream construction and integration.
Participate in the development of as-built updates and punch list resolution related to security systems throughout project execution.
Support knowledge transfer and mentoring activities by sharing security modeling techniques and best practices with less experienced team members.
Leverage model-based information to support early cost and schedule assessments for security-related scope changes or design decisions.
Expand your expertise across related technology disciplines such as network infrastructure and AV systems to improve interdisciplinary coordination.
Build a strong understanding of project workflows, from model creation and coordination to documentation delivery and client reviews.
Requirements
You must have the ability to interpret and apply Teecom's BIM and documentation standards to security system design work.

You must be able to work effectively with engineering mentors and production staff to align security models with project requirements.
You must have the capacity to manage multiple project responsibilities while maintaining accuracy and meeting coordination deadlines.
You must be comfortable learning and applying security-specific modeling techniques within a structured BIM environment.
You must possess written and verbal communication skills to coordinate clearly with cross-functional teams and stakeholders.
You must be willing to develop your technical knowledge through mentoring, feedback, and project-based learning opportunities.
You must be legally authorized to work in the United States without sponsorship requirements for this position.
Nice to have
Preferred experience with security systems such as access control, video surveillance, intrusion detection, or related technology disciplines.
Exposure to AV, networking, or other technology systems that commonly integrate with security infrastructure.
Experience with BIM coordination workflows, clash detection, and model organization best practices.
Familiarity with project documentation processes, including drawing production, issue tracking, and version control.
