About the role
Technosylva is looking for an IT Systems & Operations Engineer to join the team and help keep all technology systems running smoothly. This position focuses on the day to day management of company infrastructure, including workstations, servers, and network equipment. The engineer will be a key point of contact for internal staff who need help with technical issues or system access. By maintaining stable and secure environments, this role directly supports the company's ability to serve its clients without interruption.

What you'll do
Maintain and monitor servers, workstations, and network devices to ensure continuous availability across the organization.
Install, configure, and update operating systems along with standard business applications on all company devices.
Provide first and second tier technical support to internal staff, answering questions and resolving issues promptly.
Manage user accounts, permissions, and access controls to ensure proper security and appropriate system access levels.
Perform regular backups of critical data and verify that recovery procedures work correctly when needed.
Document all IT procedures, system configurations, and incident resolutions in a clear and accessible format.
Coordinate with external vendors and service providers for hardware procurement, software licensing, and equipment maintenance.
Identify and resolve system performance issues, network outages, and connectivity problems as they arise during business hours.
Assist in planning and executing technology upgrades, infrastructure expansions, and migrations to new platforms or tools.
Ensure compliance with internal security policies, data protection standards, and software licensing agreements at all times.
Review system logs and performance metrics on a regular basis to proactively identify potential failures before they impact users.
Participate in weekly team meetings to discuss ongoing projects, upcoming changes, and priorities for the IT department.
Requirements
Experience in a systems administration or IT operations role supporting a small to medium sized organization for at least two years.
Strong working knowledge of Windows and Linux operating systems, including comfort with command line interfaces and scripting basics.
Solid understanding of networking fundamentals such as TCP/IP, DNS, DHCP, subnetting, and basic firewall configuration and management.
Proven ability to diagnose and resolve hardware and software issues in a timely and professional manner without escalation.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills for documenting technical procedures and explaining complex topics to non technical colleagues.
Strong attention to detail and a methodical, organized approach to troubleshooting, problem solving, and change management processes.
Willingness to continuously learn new technologies, adapt to evolving business requirements, and take on emerging responsibilities as needed.
High school diploma or equivalent required; an associate or bachelor degree in information technology or a related field is preferred.
Ability to prioritize tasks effectively in a fast paced environment where multiple requests and issues may arrive simultaneously.
Experience working in a team oriented setting with a focus on collaboration, accountability, and shared ownership of outcomes.
Nice to have
Experience with cloud platforms such as Microsoft Azure or Amazon Web Services for managing virtual resources and services.
Knowledge of virtualization technologies including VMware or Hyper-V for creating and managing virtual machines and containers.
Familiarity with mobile device management solutions and endpoint security tools to protect company data on all devices.
Previous exposure to wildfire risk modeling or environmental simulation software environments in a professional or academic setting.
Certification in IT service management frameworks such as ITIL or similar industry recognized credentials is a strong advantage.
Prior hands on experience with scripting or automation using PowerShell, Bash, or Python to streamline repetitive administrative tasks.
Skills & tools
Proficiency with the Microsoft 365 suite including Exchange for email, SharePoint for document management, and Teams for communication.
Comfort with scripting and automation using PowerShell or Bash to reduce manual effort and improve operational consistency.
Hands on experience with Active Directory, Group Policy Objects, and organizational unit design for managing user and computer objects.
Working knowledge of remote desktop protocols and virtualization platforms for supporting distributed work arrangements and testing environments.
Understanding of backup and recovery solutions including snapshot management, retention policies, and disaster recovery planning best practices.
Familiarity with IT service management frameworks and ticketing systems for tracking incidents, changes, and service requests efficiently.
Experience with patch management tools and software deployment systems to keep all endpoints current and secure.
Basic understanding of firewall rules, intrusion detection concepts, and network monitoring tools for maintaining a secure infrastructure.
Practical notes
This is a full time position with standard business hours and occasional on call availability for after hours incidents.
The role may require occasional travel to client sites or vendor locations for equipment installation, setup, or maintenance visits.
Employees should expect to sit at a workstation for extended periods and be able to lift up to twenty five pounds when moving equipment.
