About the role
You will design, build, test, deploy, and monitor backend services in production environments for our global payments platform. Your work will focus on core payment and banking capabilities, including accounts, wallets, balances, payment authorization, card lifecycle management, compliance integrations, and reporting services. You will contribute to the evolution of a large-scale financial infrastructure supporting millions of users, primarily using a Ruby-based technology stack. In this role, you will operate with a high degree of autonomy in a product-driven environment while collaborating closely with teams across Brazil and France. You will translate business requirements into pragmatic and scalable technical solutions that drive real business outcomes.

What you'll do
Analyze complex business requirements and translate them into robust, scalable backend solutions for the payments platform.
Design and implement new features and services that enhance accounts, wallets, balances, and payment authorization workflows.
Evolve and maintain core Ruby-based backend systems to ensure reliability, performance, and scalability at scale.
Collaborate with Product and Engineering stakeholders to define technical approaches that solve real business problems effectively.
Integrate with compliance, KYC, and financial reporting systems to meet regulatory standards and operational needs.
Develop and maintain payment orchestration, card lifecycle management, and authorization flows with high reliability.
Implement monitoring, observability, and alerting solutions to ensure platform health and rapid incident response.
Work with messaging and event-driven architectures using technologies such as Kafka and RabbitMQ to enable resilient communication.
Partner with cross-functional teams across Brazil and France to align on priorities and deliver high-quality solutions.
Write clean, well-tested code and actively participate in code reviews to uphold engineering best practices.
Mentor other engineers by sharing knowledge and guiding them on architecture and implementation details.
Optimize system performance, security, and reliability through continuous improvements and refactoring.
Lead end-to-end project execution, from discovery and design through delivery and post-launch monitoring.
Contribute to architectural discussions and long-term technical strategy for the payments platform.
Support on-call responsibilities to ensure platform stability and quick resolution of production issues.
Requirements
Significant experience building and operating backend systems in production environments.
Strong understanding of software design principles, distributed systems, and scalable architectures.
Experience working with both relational and non-relational databases in production scenarios.
Experience with messaging and event-driven systems such as Kafka, RabbitMQ, or similar technologies.
Ability to work autonomously and take ownership of complex problems from discovery through delivery.
Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with a focus on root cause analysis and system behavior.
Product mindset and the ability to understand business context when making technical trade-offs and decisions.
Clear communication skills and the ability to collaborate effectively in a global, cross-cultural environment.
Fluent or advanced English proficiency at C1-C2 level to communicate with international teams.
Willingness to work closely with compliance, finance, and legal teams to ensure regulatory adherence.
Commitment to writing maintainable, well-documented, and testable code.
Passion for learning new technologies and improving existing systems through iterative delivery.
Demonstrated experience collaborating in agile development cycles with frequent releases.
Professional attitude and ownership when managing multiple priorities and tight deadlines.

Previous experience in fintech, payments, banking, or other regulated industries.
Hands-on experience with compliance, KYC, or financial reporting systems and processes.
Background working in international and distributed teams across different time zones.
Understanding of financial regulations and reporting requirements in Brazil or France.
Experience with infrastructure as code and cloud-native deployment practices.
Knowledge of security best practices for financial systems and data protection.
Practical notes
This role is based in Brazil and requires the ability to work during Brazilian business hours.
Travel may be required occasionally for meetings, workshops, or company events.
