About the role
The Environmental Health and Safety (EHS) Manager at Surepoint plays a pivotal role in ensuring a safe and compliant working environment for all employees. This position is essential for developing, implementing, and maintaining EHS programs that align with industry standards and regulatory requirements. The EHS Manager will collaborate with various departments to promote a culture of safety, reduce workplace hazards, and enhance overall operational efficiency. This role is based in Atwood, Kansas, and is a full-time position.

What you'll do
- Develop and implement comprehensive environmental health and safety policies and procedures that comply with local, state, and federal regulations.
- Conduct regular risk assessments and audits to identify potential hazards and recommend corrective actions to mitigate risks.
- Lead training sessions for employees on EHS practices, ensuring that all staff are aware of safety protocols and emergency procedures.
- Monitor workplace conditions and practices to ensure compliance with safety regulations and company policies.
- Collaborate with management to create a culture of safety within the organization, promoting employee engagement in EHS initiatives.
- Investigate accidents and incidents to determine root causes and develop strategies to prevent recurrence.
- Maintain accurate records of safety inspections, incidents, and training sessions, preparing reports for management and regulatory agencies as required.
- Serve as the primary point of contact for regulatory agencies and ensure timely reporting and compliance with all EHS regulations.
- Participate in the development of emergency response plans and conduct drills to ensure readiness in case of an incident.
- Stay updated on industry trends and changes in regulations to ensure that the company remains compliant and proactive in its EHS efforts.
- Facilitate communication between departments regarding EHS matters, ensuring that all teams are aligned with safety objectives.
- Support sustainability initiatives by identifying opportunities for waste reduction, energy efficiency, and environmental stewardship.
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in Environmental Science, Occupational Health and Safety, or a related field.
- A minimum of 5 years of experience in environmental health and safety management, preferably in a manufacturing or industrial setting.
- Strong knowledge of OSHA regulations, EPA standards, and other relevant safety and environmental regulations.
- Proven track record of developing and implementing successful EHS programs and initiatives.
- Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written, with the ability to engage and influence employees at all levels.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to assess risks and develop effective mitigation strategies.
- Certification in safety management (e.g., CSP, CIH, or similar) is highly desirable.
- Proficient in using EHS management software and tools for reporting and tracking compliance.
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a team-oriented environment.
Nice to have
- Experience in conducting safety training and workshops for diverse employee groups.
- Familiarity with environmental sustainability practices and initiatives.
- Previous experience in a leadership role within an EHS department.
- Knowledge of ISO 14001 and ISO 45001 standards.
- Bilingual proficiency in English and Spanish is a plus.
