Systems Engineer Manager
Job description
About the role
Systems Engineer Manager
We are seeking a Systems Engineer Manager to join the Corporate IT organization. This role reports directly to the Head of Global IT. You will establish and lead the Systems Engineering discipline within Corporate IT, building this function from the ground up. You will own and advance SumUp's identity infrastructure, which is constructed on Microsoft Entra ID, and drive the consolidation and standardization of our core business platform configurations.
Your work will focus on actively improving stability, observability, and performance. You are not merely maintaining existing systems; you are a technical strategic thinker who brings structure to complexity. The Corporate IT team currently includes System Administrators and outsourced support across the EU and the Americas. Our mission is to ensure every SumUp employee can access the tools they need safely and efficiently. We provide the digital keys to the company, ensuring that identity and access are seamless enablers of work rather than obstacles.
We value high accountability, technical excellence, and a culture where IT is treated as an engineering discipline. If you are excited about building unified identity platforms, leveraging current technologies such as AI, and scaling internal engineering in a complex, multi-region fintech environment, we want to hear from you.
What you'll do
You will design conditional access policies, manage identity lifecycles, and ensure SSO health within a complex Microsoft Entra ID environment. You will develop scripting and workflow tooling to reduce manual toil and increase reliability across the organization. You will drive the adoption of AI-powered tooling to automate routine processes and scale the team's output beyond human hours. You will partner with Endpoint Management to ensure seamless integration between identity, access, and device management across the fleet.
You will govern access to AI platforms and tooling, managing permissions, data boundaries, and audit trails. You will lead the consolidation and standardization of core business platform configurations to bring consistency to our fast-growing landscape. You will build a team where you set clear expectations and actively support the career growth of your members. You will partner closely with Security & Compliance for access controls, the People Team for joiner-mover-leaver processes, and Engineering teams for secure tool access. You will own the IT service queue for systems-level issues, triaging and resolving them with engineering rigor rather than a purely reactive support mindset.
Requirements
You must hold 5+ years of experience in IAM or Systems Engineering, with deep expertise in tooling such as Azure/Entra ID, Okta, or OneLogin. You must have familiarity with governing non-human identities and service accounts at scale; this is increasingly critical as AI tooling proliferates and serves as a meaningful filter for the right candidate. You must have a proven track record of automating lifecycle processes (JML) and proficiency in scripting, including PowerShell, Bash, or Python.
You must design systems that solve access problems before they reach the helpdesk and possess expert knowledge of cloud-first identity principles such as SCIM and OIDC. You must have experience acting as a technical lead, managing high-level administrative permissions, and navigating least privilege environments. You must view technical debt and inconsistent configurations as an opportunity to create structure rather than a hurdle to avoid.
Compensation and location
This position is based in Barcelona, Barcelona, Spain; Berlin, Germany; and Sofia, Bulgaria. The engagement involves corporate IT systems ownership with cross-regional collaboration. The compensation for this role is 80,000.00 EUR per year for 3-5 years.
Nice to have
Experience in fintech environments and familiarity with multi-region constraints shaping system decisions is a valuable addition.
Skills & tools
You will work with Microsoft Entra ID, AI platforms (including Copilot, Cursor, and Langdock), endpoint management solutions, and security compliance frameworks.
